Consultant in Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedics
The post holder will be responsible for: Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service Teaching and training of resident doctors, medical students and nurses To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME) The Department of Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedics is based in Addenbrookes Hospital.
The Unit provides elective orthopaedic and emergency limb trauma care to the local population and the wider East of England region.
We provide both general and specialist orthopaedic and trauma care.
Specialist services include a dedicated Ponseti clinic, specialist neuromuscular and spina bifida clinics, limb deformity correction and a DDH clinic.
We work closely with colleagues in paediatric neurology, rheumatology and radiology.
We also have close links with the adult trauma and orthopaedic team.
We actively participate in both national and local research projects.
We are active members and the regional Paediatric T+O Operational Delivery Network (OPN)
and lead the clubfoot subgroup.
Outpatient facilities for Paediatric Orthopaedics are in Clinic 6.
Fracture Clinics run from Clinic 1, where the plaster room is located.
Some specialist clinics run in the Child Development Centre (CDC).
Elective Paediatric Orthopaedic beds are provided on F3 ward.
Most emergency admissions go to D2 ward.
Children are admitted to PICU, HDU and NICU as clinically indicated.
The department currently has 5 consultants, 1 clinical fellow, 3 residents, 2.4 FTE physiotherapists, 3 CNSs and 1 secretary.
The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU/HDU) has 13 beds, it is the only PICU for the East of England covering a large geographic area.
As a part of the Major Trauma Centre for East of England, PICU also provides support for the paediatric trauma for the region Notably, the development of a dedicated, stand-alone Childrens Hospital on the campus is well underway.
