Maternal Child Health Nurse
Job Type:
Part Time - 24 hours per week
Monday - 8.30am to 5.00pm
Tuesday- 8.30am to 5.00pm
Thursday- 8.30am to 5.00pm
Council is seeking an experienced and passionate Maternal and Child Health Nurse to join our dedicated community services team.
This position is responsible for providing a family focused, primary health care service to maximise the health and wellbeing of children aged 0-6 years living in the Northern Grampians Shire in line with Council's Municipal Early Years Plan.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with children and families across our regional community, providing professional, evidence-based maternal and child health services from pregnancy through to school age.

About the role
As a Maternal and Child Health Nurse, you will provide a comprehensive range of universal and enhanced maternal and child health services, including:
Deliver universal key ages and stages services and enhanced maternal and child health services to promote and monitor health, growth, physical, emotional, social and cognitive development of children aged 0-6 years in accordance with the Maternal and Child Health Service Program Standards of Practice.
Contribute to increasing Northern Grampian Shire Council's immunisation rate for preventable infectious diseases by providing families with information on council's immunisation services on a regular basis and advise relevant staff of families requiring opportunistic immunisations where appropriate.
Assess the safety and wellbeing of children and families with identified risk factors by providing support, improving family functioning, addressing presenting issues and act as an advocate for families and children when appropriate.




Provide information and parenting support utilising relevant resources for families and facilitate access to these resources including culturally sensitive interventions for families with complex needs
Participate in research programs relevant to clinical and health promotion practices to contribute to a growing body of evidence-based nursing.
About you
You will be a compassionate and skilled health professional who enjoys building relationships with families and working as part of a collaborative community team.
We are looking for someone who has:
Registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse suitable for practice in Victoria.
Postgraduate qualifications in Maternal & Child Health and Midwifery.
Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
An understanding of the legislation, standards and best practice principles that guide Maternal and Child Health nursing.
Experience delivering family-centred care and working with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of specialist referral pathways and community support services to ensure families receive the right support at the right time.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with families, colleagues and external stakeholders.
Well-developed assessment, clinical decision-making and advocacy skills, with a commitment to early intervention and child safety.
Experience using Maternal and Child Health clinical information systems is desirable.
Works collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrates initiative, and is committed to continuous improvement in the delivery of immunisation services.
