About the role:
The AOD Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Team Leader provides strategic, operational and clinical leadership for the Alcohol and Other Drugs team within the Emergency Department Mental Health and AOD Hubs at Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals.
This is an influential leadership role that combines service management, clinical excellence and workforce development to ensure the delivery of high-quality, consumer-centred care for people presenting with alcohol and other drug needs.
Key responsibilities include leading and supporting the AOD CNC workforce, overseeing day-to-day service operations, providing expert clinical guidance, and working collaboratively with Emergency Department, Drug Health Services and multidisciplinary partners.
The role also drives service innovation, quality improvement, education, research and evidence-based practice while fostering a positive, high-performing team culture.

Key responsibilities:
Provide strategic, operational and clinical leadership
to the AOD Clinical Nurse Consultant team across Sunshine and Footscray Emergency Department Mental Health and AOD Hubs.
Manage day-to-day service operations
, including workforce allocation, clinical prioritisation, workflow coordination and escalation of operational and clinical issues.
Lead service improvement, quality and innovation initiatives
, contributing to strategic planning, evidence-based practice, research and service development across AOD services.
Provide expert clinical leadership and consultancy
, ensuring safe, effective and contemporary AOD assessment, intervention, care planning, referral and coordination of care within the team.
Support and develop staff capability
through supervision, mentoring, education, professional development and fostering a positive, high-performing team culture.
About you:




Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
, with postgraduate qualifications in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD).
Significant experience in senior clinical roles
within AOD, mental health or dual diagnosis services, including experience in emergency department settings.
Demonstrated leadership experience
managing clinical staff and leading multidisciplinary teams.
Strong clinical expertise and knowledge
of AOD assessment, treatment pathways, harm minimisation principles, and care for consumers with complex mental health and medical needs.
Excellent communication, organisational and relationship-building skills
, with a commitment to education, continuous improvement, evidence-based practice and consumer-centred care.
