Job Description
This is an Maximum Term contract - part time (15hours weekly) -Annual salary $75,********* pro rata
The Teacher Aide's main responsibility is to provide support, socialisation, securityand assistance for the schooling of children with learning disabilities or with disablinghealth problems, in class.
In class support:
Supports the Class Teacher in the classroom, assisting with classroom lessons and activities as part of inclusive teaching and learning practices
Provides learning support and assistance to individual students or small groups of students as directed by the Class Teacher or the Student Wellbeing team.
Provides feedback to the Class Teacher and/or the Student Wellbeing team in relation to individual student learning progress or /and challenges.
Carries out movement exercises with the children to help support them in their learning.
Supports teachers in implementing Behaviour Management and Individual Education Programme (IEP) as appropriate.
Programmes and assessments:
Carries out literacy and numeracy assessments under the supervision and guidance of teaching staff.
Works with individual students on their IEP programmes.
Administrative and professional development:
Attends staff meetings as necessary which may include IEP meetings and in services.
Works effectively with the "réseau d'aide" on regular basis when necessary.
Provides a yearly report.
Undergoes professional development and training as necessary.
Undergoes training in multisensory approach and assistive technology to assist students with assistive technology when developmentally appropriate.
Resourcing:




Makes resources available to help students academically, socially and emotionally.
Carries out administrative, craft, classroom housekeeping routines (preparing paints, cutting materials, etc) to support the Class Teacher in maintaining an organised setting.
Provides regular feedback and acts as an advisor to the Head of Primary.
Works in close collaboration with the parents, provides them support and regular advice and makes sure ongoing communication is maintained with them.
May be required to assist Vie Scolaire towards other students identified as special needs students.
Undergoes playground and any duties as directed.
Special needs:
Assists students with special needs in classroom and playground setting.
Perform hygiene and cleaning duties as directed.
Administers first aid to children.
Carries out other Learning Support Activities commensurate with the position as directed by the Class Teacher and/or Student Wellbeing team.
Desired Skills and Experience
Ideally, you will:
Have a minimum of two (2) years' experience in a similar role and working with children with a range of learning needs.
Hold entry-level qualification – a Certificate III in Education Support.
Be fluent in French and English, and when communicating verbally and in writing, demonstrate an ability to maintain cultural sensitivity when relaying concepts and ideas between languages.
Have knowledge of the French educational system.
Be well organised, with an ability to manage time and do many things at once within a set timeframe, and can change plans often and easily, to achieve results whilst maintaining a calm and professional demeanour.
Be able to work with minimal supervision.
Be able to develop and maintain a good relationship with students, teachers and parents.
Have excellent communication skills, and display respect and empathy for students with additional needs.
Display confidentiality, tact, reliability and sensitivity to students and their families.
Have proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment with a "can do and we, not me" attitude.
