YOUR ROLE
As a Purchasing Team Leader at Bunzl, you'll support the day-to-day purchasing function while ensuring inventory levels are effectively managed to meet customer demand, service expectations and commercial targets.
You'll provide guidance and support to the purchasing team, while taking a hands on role across purchasing, backorder management & inventory control.
Working closely with suppliers, sales, customer service and operations, you'll help ensure purchasing activity is accurate, effective and commercially sound.
Key responsibilities will include:
Support and develop the purchasing team, providing guidance across day-to-day purchasing activities and priorities
Maintain appropriate stock levels to meet customer demand while optimising investment in inventory
Manage and oversee purchase orders, including overdue orders, delivery dates and supplier follow up
Monitor slow moving and obsolete inventory and take corrective action to minimise stock write downs
Review customer backorders, purchase order exceptions and inventory issues and ensure appropriate action is taken
Build and maintain strong supplier relationships and assist with supplier returns and credits
Support new supplier,
product and SKU setup and ensure purchasing and product information remains accurate
Work closely with sales, customer service and operations to resolve issues and maintain strong service levels
Monitor purchasing and inventory performance against agreed targets and provide regular reporting and insights to management
Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, systems and overall business efficiency
ABOUT YOU
You'll be an experienced purchasing professional who combines strong commercial and analytical capability with the ability to lead a team and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced distribution environment.
Ideally, you will bring:
Previous purchasing experience, including exposure to local and overseas purchasing within a medium to large distribution business
Previous experience leading, mentoring or providing day-to-day direction to a team
Experience working with ERP systems and managing purchasing and inventory information
Strong numerical and analytical skills
Excellent organisation, attention to detail and time management
The ability to prioritise competing demands and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
The ability to build effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders across sales, customer service and operations
A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
The ability to work collaboratively across functions while also taking ownership of outcomesA tertiary qualification in Business, Supply Chain, Procurement or a related discipline will be highly regarded
