The business services diesel-powered prime movers, rigid trucks, trailers, light commercial vehicles and associated plant for transport operators, owner-drivers and fleet customers across Melbourne's western industrial corridor and regional Victoria.
The workshop undertakes scheduled servicing, diagnostic fault-finding, mechanical repair, engine and driveline overhaul, brake and suspension work, air system repairs, and roadworthy and pre-inspection preparation.

The Diesel Motor Mechanic is responsible for the diagnosis, service, repair, overhaul and testing of diesel engines and associated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems in heavy and light commercial vehicles and plant.
The position requires the trade-level judgement and autonomy expected of a qualified mechanic, including the ability to interpret technical documentation, diagnose complex faults without direct supervision, certify the roadworthiness of completed work, and maintain accurate service records.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Diagnosis and Fault-Finding Interpret customer reports, service histories, fault codes and manufacturer technical data to identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults in diesel-powered vehicles and plant.
Operate diagnostic scan tools, engine analysers, compression testers, pressure gauges, multimeters and dynamometer equipment to isolate faults in engines, fuel systems, transmissions, differentials, braking systems and electrical circuits.
Conduct road tests and in-service assessments to verify reported faults and confirm the effectiveness of completed repairs.
Determine the extent of repair required, prepare repair estimates and advise the Director and customers of findings, options, parts requirements and expected turnaround.
Repair, Overhaul and Servicing Dismantle, inspect, repair, recondition, reassemble and test diesel engines, including cylinder heads, valve trains, pistons, bearings, turbochargers, injectors, injection pumps and cooling systems.
Service and repair driveline components including clutches, manual and automated manual transmissions, differentials, tail shafts and power take-off units.




Diagnose and repair air brake and hydraulic brake systems, air compressors, valves, slack adjusters, brake chambers and associated pneumatic circuitry.
Repair and replace steering, suspension, air-bag suspension and chassis components, including alignment and load-related adjustments.
Diagnose and repair vehicle electrical systems including charging and starting systems, lighting, wiring harnesses, sensors, ECUs and trailer electrical connections.
Service and repair emissions control and after-treatment systems, including EGR, DPF and SCR/AdBlue systems, in accordance with manufacturer procedures.
Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance servicing to manufacturer and fleet specifications, including fluid, filter and wear-item replacement.
Perform oxy-acetylene and electric welding, cutting and basic fabrication for the repair of brackets, mounts, exhaust systems and chassis components.
Compliance, Quality and Safety Inspect vehicles and complete documentation for roadworthy and heavy vehicle inspection requirements in accordance with Victorian and national heavy vehicle standards.
Ensure all repair work complies with manufacturer specifications, applicable Australian Standards and Heavy Vehicle National Law requirements, and certify work as fit for return to service.
Work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act **** (Vic) and the business's safe work procedures, including safe use of hoists, jacks and stands, isolation and lock-out procedures, and correct use of personal protective equipment.
Handle, store and dispose of oils, coolants, fuels, solvents and other hazardous substances in accordance with legislative and environmental requirements.
Maintain a clean, orderly and hazard-free work area and report all incidents, near misses and equipment defects to the Director.
Administration and Customer Service Complete job cards, service reports, repair records and warranty documentation accurately and promptly.
Identify, order and verify replacement parts and consumables, and liaise with suppliers regarding availability, specification and warranty.
Communicate technical findings and maintenance recommendations to customers in clear, non-technical terms.




Attend breakdown and roadside call-outs and undertake field repairs where practicable.
Training and Continuous Improvement Provide practical guidance, instruction and on-the-job supervision to apprentices and workshop assistants.
Maintain current knowledge of engine technology, diagnostic systems and manufacturer service bulletins, and participate in training as required.
Contribute to workshop process improvements, tooling requirements and preventative maintenance scheduling.
Requirements: Essential An AQF Certificate III in Automotive Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Automotive Diesel Engine Technology or equivalent trade qualification; or an equivalent overseas trade qualification supported by a favourable skills assessment from Trades Recognition Australia.
A minimum of three (3) years' post-qualification experience as a diesel mechanic servicing heavy commercial vehicles, trucks or diesel-powered plant.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and rectify complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults independently and without direct supervision.
Practical competence with diagnostic scan tools and the interpretation of manufacturer technical manuals, wiring diagrams and service bulletins.
Sound working knowledge of workplace health and safety obligations in a workshop environment.
A current and valid Australian driver licence.
Effective written and verbal communication skills in English, sufficient to complete service documentation and liaise with customers and suppliers.
Ownership of, or ability to supply, a standard set of mechanic's hand tools.
Desirable A Heavy Rigid (HR) or Heavy Combination (HC) driver licence.
Experience with air brake systems, air-bag suspension and after-treatment (DPF/SCR) systems.
Welding and light fabrication capability.
Experience preparing vehicles for roadworthy and heavy vehicle inspection.
Experience mentoring or supervising apprentices.
Terms and Conditions The position is full-time and ongoing, based on 38 ordinary hours per week, Monday to Friday, with reasonable additional hours as required by operational demand.

The position is genuine, full time and available on an ongoing basis for a period of at least the duration of the nominated visa.
