About the Role
The Senior Legal Counsel (Intellectual Property)
reports to the Director of Legal Affairs and is responsible for providing expert intellectual property legal advice and support across Brisbane ****.
The role will lead negotiations and advise on complex intellectual property matters including high-profile brand, content and ceremonies initiatives. Come be a critical part of helping Brisbane **** create and deliver the content and experiences that will bring the **** Olympic and Paralympic Games to life.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert legal support to Brisbane **** on all aspects of intellectual property including its creation, ownership, assignment, licensing and use.
Lead, negotiate and advise on IP-intensive workstreams including content commissioning, music licensing, talent and performer arrangements, production services, development of creative materials and ceremonies.
Deliver accessible and pragmatic legal advice on intellectual property aspects of Brisbane **** contracts across all Functional Areas.
Ensure compliance with the Olympic Host Contract and IOC requirements including in relation to Games-Related Properties.
Develop practical templates and playbooks to support effective management of intellectual property aspects across Brisbane ****.
Develop and maintain strong and collaborative relationships with Brisbane **** Functional areas, the IOC and IPC.
Provide legal support across Brisbane ****'s other 55 Functional areas as required including Sponsorship and Rights Protection.
Manage internal and external experts to deliver key areas of work. Support,
coach and develop team members in the area of intellectual property.
Skills and Experience
Demonstrated specialist experience advising on complex intellectual property matters including ownership, assignment, licensing and use of intellectual property in contractual arrangements.
Strong knowledge of intellectual property principles and laws in Australia and internationally.
Outstanding contract negotiation and drafting skills with proven experience delivering commercially sound outcomes for complex arrangements.
Expertise gained in a top-tier law firm or sophisticated in-house legal team with a strong intellectual property focus.
Experience advising on content and creative asset rights, music licensing and talent arrangements is desirable, though not essential.
Admitted to practice law in Australia and holds a current practising certificate.
Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic, solution focused advice that balances legal risk with commercial and operational requirements.
Proven capability in delivering high-quality, fit-for-purpose and timely legal advice in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
Demonstrated ability to build rapport and adapt communication style to suit a range of stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to 'roll up sleeves' and take on any level of work as required in a small team.
