He uses a manual wheelchair for community access but currently manages his personal care independently.The participant would like support to reconnect with his community, attend appointments and activities, and build greater independence and confidence outside the home.Applicants should ideally have some flexibility between Monday and Friday for four hour shift type.About the roleYour responsibilities may include:Supporting the participant to access the community safelyAssisting with manual wheelchair mobility during outingsSupporting attendance at appointments, therapy and community activitiesPlanning enjoyable, meaningful and goal-focused activitiesEncouraging independence, choice and confidenceProviding companionship and social supportCommunicating effectively with the participant, his family and the wider care teamCompleting accurate progress notes and required documentationFollowing all care plans, risk assessments and organisational proceduresAbout youWe are looking for someone who is:Patient, dependable and emotionally steadyRespectful of participant choice, dignity and independenceConfident supporting someone with an acquired brain injury and mobility limitationsComfortable assisting a manual wheelchair user in the communityA transparent and effective communicatorAble to build trust and provide consistent supportInterested in community participation and supporting meaningful goalsExperience supporting people with acquired brain injuries, neurological injuries or physical disabilities will be highly regarded.The participant has expressed a preference for a male support worker.
