We work hard but have fun while we're doing it.Job DescriptionAbout the roleWe are seeking a Race Starter to Race Starter to oversee the safe and efficient starting of thoroughbred and harness races, trials and jump outs across Metropolitan, Provincial and selected Country venues.In this role, you will:Start races, trials and jump outs in accordance with official protocols and guidelines.Train, accredit and support barrier and starting staff across WA.Work closely with Stewards and industry stakeholders to review and establish starting procedures.Conduct horse identity verification and equipment check to ensure runners are presented correctly to race.Make recommendations to Stewards on disciplinary and remedial matters relating to horses.Oversee health and safety for all persons at the barriers.Liaise with Perth Racing and Provincial Clubs to ensure appropriate barrier staffing levels for race meetings and trials.Attend industry forums and provide advice on starting matters.QualificationsAbout youExtensive experience in a similar roleExtensive experience in thoroughbred horse handlingExcellent practical horse handling skills, including awareness, care and supervision of horsesExtensive knowledge and understanding of thoroughbred horsesExtensive knowledge of racehorse gear and equipmentExtensive knowledge and understanding of the racing and wagering industryExtensive knowledge of Rules of RacingAbility to maintain control of thoroughbred horses and riders in pressure situationsCompletion of Year 10Current Senior First Aid CertificateAdditional InformationWhat are you waiting for?
