About the Prospect

As Lines and Signs Leading Hand, you'll play a central role in Mitchell Shire Council's Roads Maintenance team — operating the Council's Lines and Signs truck and a broad range of heavy plant and equipment while taking day-to-day responsibility for directing crew members across signage installation, urban drainage maintenance, and general road construction activities. Working alongside the Roads Maintenance Team Leader, your key responsibilities will include:

- Contributing to resource planning and helping prepare daily and annual maintenance programs
- Providing on-the-job training and guidance to ensure the team operates safely and to a consistently high standard
- Coordinating and prioritising reactive works across signage, kerb and channel, and stormwater infrastructure
- Maintaining electronic records and ensuring compliance with Council policies, OH&S; obligations, and quality assurance requirements

This is a hands-on leadership role that calls for strong plant operating credentials, a practical approach to managing a small field team,



and the organisational discipline to keep on top of paperwork and compliance — all while delivering real value to the residents and stakeholders who depend on Mitchell Shire's road network every day.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity with a fortnightly RDO. Remuneration begins at $78.3K to $81.8K (Band 4) plus superannuation.

About You

To succeed in this role, you'll be an experienced field operator and team leader with a practical skill set that spans plant operation, road maintenance, and drainage construction. You will be able to demonstrate:

- Current certification and hands-on experience operating heavy plant — including trucks, excavator, backhoe, skid steer, and loaders — as well as small tools such as grinders, chainsaws, concrete grinders, and demo saws
- A proven ability to coordinate and prioritise urgent reactive works across yourself and a small crew, keeping safety and service delivery front of mind
- Experience preparing accurate resource estimates covering labour, plant, materials, and time
- Competence in maintaining electronic records in support of OH&S;, quality assurance, and environmental accreditation requirements




- Demonstrated experience in signage installation and maintenance, alongside a solid background in general road maintenance activities
- Practical experience in stormwater pit and kerb and channel construction and maintenance
