Mission statement
The St Vincent de Paul Society (Society) is a lay Catholic organisation that aspires to live the gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.
Position summary
CHSP delivers high quality support services to frail older people who are on a low income. The Society delivers Community and Home Support in the categories of Home Maintenance and Transport. Home maintenance services assist clients to maintain their independence, safety, accessibility, and health and welling within their home environment. Transport assists frail, older people to access transport services that supports their access to the community.
Maintenance Officers work under the direction of the Team Leader Aged Care Services in the delivery of Yard Maintenance Services to CHSP Clients.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Operational
- Participate in daily tool box meetings, complete required task sheets and maintenance records as required.
- Complete specific yard maintenance services set out in daily run sheets and according to scope of service agreements.
- Communicate effectively with CHSP clients to ensure their satisfaction with the yard maintenance service, discuss any concerns or complaints and provide information to the Team Leader Aged Care Services.
- Responsible for ensuring all Society equipment is maintained in valuable repair, including motor vehicles, trailers, ride-on-mowers, equipment and tools, etc.
- Perform basic maintenance/servicing of ride-on-mowers, equipment and tools.
- Report any maintenance issues with Society equipment including motor vehicles, trailers, ride-on-mowers, equipment and tools to the Team Leader Aged Care Services.
- Understanding of risk management principles including current WHS legislation and regulations
General
- Highly resilient with ability to work unsupervised in a challenging and busy environment
- Communicate effectively with the Team Leader Aged Care Services
- Ensure all administrative tasks and paperwork is completed in a timely manner
- Ensure compliance with all workplace policies and procedures and ensure that safe work practices are always upheld and promoted
- Contribute to the ongoing process of continual improvement and effective teamwork
- Acknowledge that throughout the course of employment employees may be requested to work at different Society locations due to operation requirements and may be required to work flexible hours to meet set deadlines and objectives. Out of hours and/or weekend work may be required
- Understand that duties and responsibilities identified in the position descriptions are an overview of expectations at the time the document is developed, and the position may mature throughout the employee relationship including the duties and responsibilities required to be performed
- Ability to work within the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society and in accordance with policy and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
- Suitable National Police History Check, current Northern Territory driver’s license and Ochre card
- Proof of COVID19 Vaccination as prescribed by Northern Territory Legislation and/or Funding Requirements
- Perform all other duties as required

Financial delegation as stated in the St Vincent de Paul Society Financial Delegation of Authority.
Qualifications and Experience
Preferred
- Experience in the use of yard maintenance equipment including ride-on mowers, self propelled and push mowers, edgers, blowers, etc.
- Experience in basic maintenance/servicing of yard maintenance equipment including ride-on mowers, self propelled and push mowers, edgers
- Relevant experience in working with aged or vulnerable people
