We are currently seeking an experienced Design Manager to join a well-established main contractor working on a large-scale residential project in Sydney.
This is a hands-on delivery-focused role for a Design Manager who understands the builder's side of the process and can effectively manage design from pre-construction through to delivery.
About the Role Working as part of the project team, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the design process, ensuring design information is delivered on time, coordinated properly and aligned with the project's construction requirements.
You will be heavily involved in the pre-construction and design development phases, working closely with consultants, subcontractors and the internal construction team to identify and resolve design issues before they impact the build.
Key Responsibilities

- Manage and coordinate the design process from pre-construction through to construction delivery
- Work closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager and site team
- Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants and subcontractors
- Review and manage design documentation and ensure information is issued in line with the construction program
- Identify design risks, discrepancies and buildability issues
- Drive design resolution and ensure issues are closed out efficiently
- Manage design deliverables, approvals and consultant coordination
- Assist with procurement and construction planning from a design perspective
- Ensure design solutions are practical, buildable and aligned with the project's requirements




- Attend design and project coordination meetings
- Maintain robust communication between the design consultants and construction team

About You We are looking for a builder-side Design Manager with proven experience delivering large residential projects.
You will ideally have:

- Strong Design Management experience working for a main/head contractor
- Experience on large-scale residential projects
- Strong pre-construction and design development experience
- A proven track record of taking designs through to construction delivery
- Strong understanding of construction methodology and buildability
- Excellent consultant and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to identify issues early and drive them through to resolution
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Ability to work closely with construction teams and understand what is required to successfully deliver a project

Important: This is a builder-side Design Manager position. Candidates coming purely from an architectural/design consultancy background without main contractor experience will not be suitable.
