Our client is seeking an experienced full-time Painter to undertake painting and decorating work across residential building and construction projects located in Tarneit, Victoria.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Examine and assess surfaces to determine the appropriate preparation, painting and finishing requirements.
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, colour schedules and job instructions to determine painting requirements.
- Prepare walls, ceilings, timber, metal and other surfaces by cleaning, scraping, sanding and removing old or damaged coatings.
- Fill cracks, holes and imperfections using appropriate fillers, sealants and patching compounds to achieve smooth and even surfaces.
- Apply primers, sealers, undercoats and protective coatings to properly prepare surfaces for final finishes.
- Mix, match and prepare paints to achieve required colours, shades, consistency and finishes.
- Apply paint, varnish, stains, lacquers and other decorative or protective coatings using brushes, rollers and spray-painting equipment.
- Apply decorative finishes, textures and specialised coatings where required in accordance with project specifications.
- Measure work areas and estimate the quantity of paint, materials and supplies required for individual projects.
- Protect floors, windows, fixtures, fittings and surrounding areas using drop sheets, masking materials and other appropriate protective coverings.
- Erect and safely use ladders, trestles, scaffolding and other access equipment required to perform painting work.
- Ensure completed surfaces have an even,
clean and professional finish and rectify defects where necessary.
- Perform internal and external painting work on residential buildings and other construction projects undertaken by the business.
- Coordinate painting activities with builders, supervisors and other tradespeople to ensure work is completed in accordance with construction schedules.
- Inspect completed work to ensure workmanship meets required quality standards and project specifications.
- Maintain painting tools, spray equipment and other equipment in safe and proper working condition.
- Calculate and control the use of paints and other materials to minimise unnecessary wastage while maintaining required quality standards.
- Follow manufacturer specifications and appropriate procedures when handling, preparing, applying and storing paints, solvents and coating products.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area and properly dispose of painting materials and waste.
- Comply with occupational health and safety requirements, including the correct use of personal protective equipment and safe work practices.
- Identify and report hazards, defects or issues that may affect the quality or protected completion of painting work.
- Work independently and as part of the construction team to complete assigned projects within required timeframes.
- Undertake touch-ups, maintenance painting and rectification work where required.
- Perform other painting and decorating duties reasonably associated with the position.
Requirements:
- Certificate III in Painting & Decorating
- Minimum three (3) years' relevant industry experience
- Valid Australian driver's licence
- Current White Card
- Strong attention to detail and a high standard of workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to delivering quality work
