What you’ll do:
The Cost Officer plays a key role in supporting the successful financial delivery of the Midstream and Energy Solutions Capital Program. The portfolio encompasses a diverse range of capital works including Brownfield Projects, Major Maintenance Shutdowns and Major Machinery Overhauls, across several Major Hazardous Facilities Working closely with Project Managers, Project Controls, Finance, Procurement, Engineering and delivery teams, the role provides day-to-day cost management, financial oversight and reporting to ensure projects remain aligned to approved budgets, forecasts and delivery objectives.
The role is responsible for maintaining accurate project cost data, monitoring actual expenditure against budgets and commitments, raising purchase requisitions, approving invoices, coordinating accruals and variations, and identifying emerging cost pressures or trends. The Cost Officer supports regular forecasting and financial reporting, investigates variances, maintains cost and commitment registers, and provides clear insights to Project Managers and Team Leaders to support informed decision-making.
This is an engaging and collaborative role suited to someone who enjoys working across multiple projects, building strong stakeholder relationships and turning financial information into practical insights that help project teams deliver safely, efficiently and within budget.
Key accountabilities include:
- Providing expertise and sound judgement within the area of responsibility to develop and deliver plans, priorities,
and work activities aligned with company strategy, business objectives, and operational requirements
- Demonstrating a change and performance-focused mindset by actively supporting continuous improvement initiatives and contributing to the achievement of desired business outcomes
- Supporting the delivery of cost reduction initiatives, efficiency improvements, and value creation strategies through effective cost management, optimisation opportunities, and disciplined execution of assigned activities
- Maintaining effective, timely, and collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support successful delivery of business objectives.
- Ensuring compliance with all company policies, standards, procedures, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements relevant to the role.
- Ensuring compliance with and adherence to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) requirements, ensuring behaviours align with company policies, standards, and safety expectations.
What you’ll bring:
- Previous experience working closely with Project Managers, Planners, Estimators, Schedulers, Joint Venture partners, Accounting, and Finance teams by raising purchase requisitions, assisting with invoice management to facilitate timely contractor and supplier payments and provide cost control support, financial analysis, reporting, and resolution of project-related cost queries.
- Ability to resolving technical and financial issues relating to SAP, accounts payable and receivable, invoice processing, and project cost transactions to maintain the integrity of project financial data.
- Experience establishing and maintain project financial structures by creating new project codes, setting up Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), networks, and associated SAP project elements, while ensuring the accurate financial close-out of completed projects.
- Ability to monitor project costs, commitments, forecasts, and budgets,
identifying cost variances and highlighting potential risks or opportunities to support proactive project decision-making.
- Willingness to undertake additional project controls and cost management responsibilities as required by the Project Controls Lead to support the successful delivery of the capital program.
