We are a private Building Surveying business, providing residential and commercial building approvals across the South Coast of NSW and Sydney regions. With a small team, our workplace provides a unique opportunity for workplace training, skill advancement and growth within the business.
We are searching for a highly motivated and ready to learn, Building Surveyor Cadet to join our team in our NSW South Coast office.
The cadetship allows you to complete the approved studies in Building Surveying while earning a full‑time salary and obtaining practical hands‑on experience in the industry.
Job outline:
This position provides the opportunity to build the technical and qualified skills necessary to undertake critical stage inspections during residential construction projects, and assess construction applications for compliance with relevant legislation, codes and standards, all while completing study within work hours under the support of experienced Building Surveyors.
As a Building Surveying Cadet, you will:
1. Undertake workplace learning which will include completing critical stage inspections, review and assessment of documentation,
using industry specific computer programs (Building Compliance Systems, NSW Planning Portal, NSW Swimming Pool Register etc).
2. Assist in the assessment of Construction Certificate and Complying Development Certificate applications for residential development.
3. Learn and apply the relevant planning and building legislation, including the National Construction Codes and Australian Standards.
4. Conduct site inspections for critical stages throughout construction, under the supervision of an experienced Building Surveyor.
5. Respond to customer enquiries and provide a high level of customer service.
Preferred candidate:
1. Interest or experience in the construction, architectural, or planning industry is advantageous although not required.
2. Highly computer literate.
3. The ability to prioritise tasks.
4. Strong written and verbal communication.
5. Ability to multitask with attention to detail.
6. Excellent phone manner.
7. Ability to learn new programs and concepts with relative ease within a short time.
8. Able to work autonomously, within an open office layout.
9. A genuine interest in pursuing a career within the building, and certification industry.
