The vision for nursing and midwifery at The Sutherland Hospital is to build a united team that provides compassionate care to our community through transformational, supportive and holistic nursing and midwifery.
The Registered Midwife provides evidence-based, woman-centred, culturally safe and trauma informed midwifery care across pregnancy and the postnatal period within hospital, community and virtual care settings. Working in partnership with women, babies, families and the multidisciplinary team, the Registered Midwife supports continuity of care, promotes informed decision-making and contributes to safe,
equitable and high-quality maternity services aligned with SESLHD strategic priorities.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, with demonstrated recent post-registration experience within a maternity or midwifery setting.
- Demonstrated ability to provide evidence based, woman-centred, culturally safe and compassionate midwifery care, building therapeutic partnerships with women, babies and families across the continuum of maternity care.
- Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with women, families, multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to support coordinated, high-quality care.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while exercising qualified judgement, maintaining professional and ethical standards, and responding appropriately to complex clinical situations.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise digital health systems and maintain accurate, timely and legally compliant clinical documentation
- Demonstrated understanding of clinical governance, risk management, patient safety, quality improvement principles and the Registered Midwife's role in delivering safe, evidence-based care.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing career development, reflective practice, and contributing to service development, innovation and continuous quality improvement to support contemporary models of maternity care.
