About the Role
The Permanent Support Unit Teacher is a school-based classroom teaching position requiring the capacity to deliver high-quality, differentiated and inclusive teaching and learning programs that respond to the diverse learning, wellbeing and support needs of students with disability. The role involves developing, implementing and reviewing personalized learning and support plans, making appropriate adjustments to curriculum and assessment, and using evidence-based practices to support student engagement, participation, independence and achievement. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs), teaching staff, executive staff, families and relevant external professionals to ensure coordinated and individualised support for students. As a member of Airds High School's eight-class Support Unit, the teacher will contribute to consistent faculty practices, transition planning, behaviour and wellbeing supports, and opportunities for students to meaningfully participate in the broader school community. The role requires a clear understanding of Airds High School's Strategic Plan and the Connected Communities Strategy, with teaching practice aligned to the school's vision, priorities and commitment to strong, positive relationships with students, families and the wider community.

Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism spectrum disorder, mild intellectual disabilities, complex learning and support needs and behavioural difficulties.
- Demonstrated capacity to program and differentiate the curriculum and include whole school priorities for students with diverse learning needs.
- Highly developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team to build positive relationships and effectively liaise with students, staff, parents/carers, and external agencies.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy, with the capacity to embed culturally responsive practices that strengthen student engagement, wellbeing, cultural identity and educational outcomes
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

This advertisement is for two permanent 1.0 FTE teacher positions.

Until the outcome of any such determination is confirmed, your salary offer will remain at Step 1 then be updated at a later date (typically a 1–2 week processing time post receipt of the form).
