The Caring for Country Facilitator will play an important role in strengthening Traditional Owner partnerships and supporting Caring for Country and natural resource management initiatives across the region. Guided culturally by the Burdekin Dry Tropics Traditional Owner Management Group, the position works with Traditional Owner partners, including Land and Sea Ranger groups, and contributes to the implementation of NQ Dry Tropics' Reconciliation Action Plan.
Key responsibilities
- Building and maintaining trusted relationships with Traditional Owner organisations, Ranger groups and key stakeholders
- Supporting Traditional Owner engagement, consultation and regional planning processes
- Facilitating meetings, workshops and Caring for Country planning activities
- Supporting Traditional Owner groups with relevant funding opportunities
- Contributing to Indigenous Participation and Reconciliation Action Plan initiatives
- Supporting natural resource management projects and regional delivery programs
- Completing project monitoring and reporting requirements
About you
- Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills
- Comfortable working collaboratively across a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Sound judgement, problem-solving capability, initiative and the ability to manage competing priorities within a energetic environment
- Experience supporting stakeholder engagement, consultation, funding applications, project delivery or reporting
- Current Queensland Driver Licence
- Able to undertake occasional travel to rural and remote locations, including overnight stays where required
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person
- Formal qualifications in Natural Resource Management or a relevant field are desirable but not essential
