TBG is a specialist contractor supporting Queensland’s transport and energy networks. We deliver civil construction, rail systems, power distribution, electrical and HVAC projects across the state.
Due to continued growth and an increasing pipeline of power infrastructure projects, we are seeking an experienced Plant Operator with demonstrated experience operating 5–8 tonne excavators to join our team.
Important: This is not a FIFO or DIDO position. Applicants must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the Rockhampton region.

About the Role
Reporting to the Site Leadership Team, your responsibilities will include:
- Operating 5–8 tonne excavators safely and competently
- Undertaking trenching, excavation, detailed earthworks, backfilling and general civil construction activities
- Supporting the construction and maintenance of civil and power infrastructure
- Completing daily plant inspections and reporting any faults or maintenance requirements
- Operating other plant, equipment and construction tools where appropriately trained and competent
- Following approved procedures, risk assessments and safe work practices
- Working around existing services and within active construction environments
- Assisting with general site activities when required
- Working collaboratively with supervisors, tradespeople and other project team members
- Delivering work safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards
- Maintaining plant, equipment and work areas in a safe and orderly condition
- Travelling and working away throughout Queensland when required
About You
To be successful in this role,
you will ideally have:
- Demonstrated experience operating excavators in the 5–8 tonne range
- Previous experience in civil construction, power, rail or utility infrastructure
- The ability to undertake detailed excavation and work safely around underground services
- Relevant excavator competency, ticket or verification of competency
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- The physical fitness and capacity to undertake manual work in outdoor environments
- A reliable, practical and proactive approach to work
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- The ability to work effectively within small project teams
- A willingness to travel and work away from home when required
- A current Australian Driver’s Licence
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
The following will be highly regarded:
- HR Driver’s Licence
- Skid Steer competency or licence
- Experience operating other civil construction plant and machinery
- Construction Industry White Card
- Previous experience working with Aurizon, Energy Queensland or other utility providers
- Experience working within rail corridors or around electrical infrastructure
- Relevant civil construction qualifications or competencies
