Job Description

Senior HR Advisor

n

Working for the Autism Association, a leading For‐Purpose Specialist Autism Service Provider in Australia, you will be an experienced HR skilled helping to support the growth of HR colleagues through mentoring and capability development, contributing to a collaborative and skilled team.

About You

n

You are an experienced HR professional with strong expertise in employee and industrial relations, organisational change, and workforce planning. You are a trusted advisor who can build effective relationships with leaders, navigate complex people matters and deliver practical, commercially focused HR solutions. You thrive in a fast‐paced environment, enjoy coaching leaders and are passionate about creating positive workplace outcomes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

n

n
- Provide expert advice and support on employee relations matters, including case management of grievance, disciplinary and performance management casework and workplace investigations.
n
- Interpret and apply industrial instruments, Awards and employment contracts, providing accurate and compliant advice within the relevant employment and industrial relations system.
n
- Provide expert advice and support to the work health and safety team on fitness for work, injury management, and return to work.
n
- Provide expert advice and support to the work health and safety team on worker‐related incident investigations, corrective actions and resolution of health and safety matters.
n
- Manage general interactions with the union, including right of entry, and participate in collective bargaining as required.
n
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation, industry‐specific guidelines, and best practice standard.
n

Leadership Development and Coaching

n

n
- Collaborate with Learning & Development to develop and deliver training and coaching for people leaders on people management fundamentals, including effective conversations, performance management,



managing ill and injured workers, and investigation basics.
n
- Coach and mentor people leaders through live people matters, building confidence, capability and self‐sufficiency in managing their teams.
n
- Mentor and support HR team members, sharing employee relations and industrial relations knowledge and fostering professional growth.
n

HR Practice and compliance

n

n
- Review, update, and implement HR policies, ensuring relevance and compliance.
n
- Support workforce planning and organisational design.
n
- Identify, develop and implement initiatives and process improvements, and contribute to HR projects, ensuring timely delivery of outcomes and alignment with organisational goals.
n
- Contribute to attraction and retention strategies in collaboration with recruitment and support employee engagement and cultural initiatives.
n

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

n

n
- Demonstrated experience managing complex employee relations casework, including grievance and disciplinary processes and workplace investigations.
n
- Knowledge of, and experience in applying, employment law, Awards and Industrial Agreements.
n
- Experience in working with unions, including right of entry and collective bargaining.
n
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop leaders and colleagues, including through delivering training to build people management capability.
n
- Sufficient knowledge of legislated psychosocial hazard management obligations, and the ability to interpret these in guiding and influencing organisational design.
n
- Ability to identify and mitigate risks.
n




- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective relationships.
n
- Operational experience with HR Information Systems.
n
- Strong communication skills with the ability to prepare formal documents and adapt communication styles to suit the audience.
n
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver results within deadlines.
n
