Talent International is currently recruiting for an APS6 Software Engineer to work for one of our Federal Government clients at one of its multiple office locations across NSW. The position is 12-month contract with the possibility of extension. The role pays $800 to $1000 per day + Super.

7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week

Security clearance: Baseline minimum; NV1 preferred

About the role

As an APS6 Software Engineer, you will deliver complex software solutions and provide technical leadership within a collaborative Agile delivery environment. You will be responsible for developing secure, accessible and high-quality applications, APIs and integrations that support critical business outcomes.

Working under broad direction, you will collaborate with business stakeholders, technical teams, Business Analysts, Project Leads and QA teams to solve complex problems and deliver practical, fit-for-purpose solutions.

Key responsibilities

- Design, develop and implement applications, systems, APIs and integrations.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure and containerised applications.
- Develop Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and deploy applications to Kubernetes environments.
- Produce and maintain technical design and development documentation.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain development quality and coding standards.
- Ensure all software meets required security, accessibility and architectural standards.




- Work closely with QA teams to implement early and effective test coverage through a shift-left approach.
- Collaborate with project teams to resolve technical issues and deliver viable solutions.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies and support continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle.
- Deliver pragmatic, value-for-money solutions aligned with business needs.

Essential skills and experience

- Strong AWS cloud infrastructure experience, including Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Experience building containerised applications using Docker, Kubernetes and Helm.
- Robust React and TypeScript development experience, including reusable components, state management, API integration and troubleshooting.
- Experience developing accessible web applications in line with WCAG 2.2A standards.
- Expertise in DevOps practices, including creating CI/CD pipelines using GitHub or GitLab.
- Experience with tools such as Artifactory and HashiCorp Vault.

Desirable skills and experience

- Mobile application development experience using React Native or similar frameworks.
- Database deployment and administration experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL.
- Experience across the full SDLC, including technical design, development, deployment, code review and long-term application support.
- Experience writing automated unit, component, integration and functional tests.
- Experience working closely with QA teams to support integration and end-to-end testing.
