TCS Shipwrights & Joinery is a locally owned and operated Cairns business providing specialist marine vessel refit, repair and maintenance services across the region.
Operating since 2013, TCS has established itself as an integral part of the Cairns marine industry, working across a diverse range of projects for the Defence and government sectors, Cairns shipyards, commercial and cargo operators, tourism vessels, cruise operators and privately owned vessels.
With a skilled team of marine tradespeople and a strong reputation for quality workmanship, compliance and delivering projects to demanding schedules, TCS is continuing to strengthen its internal systems and business operations.
We are now looking for an experienced Bookkeeper / Business Management professional to join our team and play an important role in supporting the financial, administrative and operational requirements of the business.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who is confident taking ownership of their responsibilities and enjoys working in a busy, practical environment where priorities can move quickly.
The Role
Working closely with the business owners and management team, you will be responsible for a combination of bookkeeping, financial administration and broader business support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing day-to-day bookkeeping and financial record-keeping;
- Maintaining accurate financial records using Xero;
- Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable;
- Completing bank and account reconciliations;
- Assisting with payroll and associated financial administration;
- Maintaining financial documentation,
records and reporting;
- Using and maintaining job management software and associated business systems;
- Supporting management with job costing, invoicing and financial information as required;
- Reception and general office administration;
- Managing telephone and email enquiries;
- Liaising professionally with customers, suppliers, contractors and other stakeholders;
- Supporting management with business administration and coordination;
- Maintaining accurate electronic and physical records;
- Monitoring key dates and ensuring administrative and financial requirements are completed within required timeframes; and
- Assisting with the implementation and ongoing improvement of office systems, processes and procedures.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience in a bookkeeping, accounts, business administration or business management role;
- Demonstrated experience using Xero;
- Experience using job management or similar business software;
- Strong bookkeeping and financial administration skills;
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy;
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities;
- Strong organisational and time-management skills;
- The ability to prioritise competing demands and work effectively to strict deadlines;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Confidence liaising with management, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders;
- Good computer literacy and the ability to learn new systems quickly; and
- A practical, proactive and solutions-focused approach to your work.
Relevant qualifications in bookkeeping, accounting, business administration or business management will be highly regarded.
Previous experience within the marine, shipbuilding, ship repair, Defence, construction, trades or project-based industries would also be highly regarded but is not essential.
