Child and Family Case Worker (Cameron Park)
Temporary Contract, Part-Time (24 hours per week)
Immediate Commencement through to 18 December 2026 with potential for extension

Support families to keep children safe at home
This role is ideal for practitioners who are passionate about trauma-informed, culturally safe, whole-of-family practice and working alongside families to improve child wellbeing, strengthen parenting capacity, and enhance family functioning.
The Role
Child and Family Case Workers support families participating in the Community and Family Support (CAFS) Wellbeing and Safety Program. Working across the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie LGAs, you will deliver targeted interventions that build family capacity, strengthen protective factors, address emerging concerns, and improve outcomes for children. You will also facilitate evidence-based parenting programs in individual and group settings, equipping parents and caregivers with the skills and confidence to support their children's wellbeing and development.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide high-quality, trauma-informed, strength-based casework that enhances family functioning, child wellbeing and safety
- Facilitate evidence-based parenting programs in individual and group settings
- Develop and deliver family‑led goals and safety plans
- Maintain fidelity to evidence‑based models
- Engage whole families, extended kin, and natural support networks
- Collaborate effectively with DCJ and relevant service providers (e.g. NDIS)
- Identify and elevate risk in consultation with the Child and Family Team Leader
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes and reports
- Participate in reflective supervision, group case reviews, and professional development
- Uphold child safety, cultural safety, ethical practice, and organisational values
About You – Essential Criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications
- Demonstrated experience and skills in working with children and families using a strengths-based approach, including complex case management and trauma-informed practice
- Strong skills in whole‑of‑family engagement, including kinship and natural support networks
- Experience working collaboratively with Department of Communities and Justice and community partners
- Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe practice, particularly with First Nation children, families, and communities
- Capacity to be flexible and responsive to families' needs, and work across a range of hours to support service delivery in home, community and service settings.
- Strong written communication and documentation skills
- High level use of MS365 (SharePoint, Lists, Forms and Outlook), and Client Management Systems
- Current National Police Check (issued within the last 6 months)
- Current Working with Children Check
- Possess a current HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid Qualification & CPR
- Hold a current driver’s licence and access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle
- Willingness to participate in supervision, training and development
- Ability to produce high-quality case notes, reports and written communication
- Demonstrated knowledge of Privacy and Confidentiality, Child Safe Standards, Child Protection, and WH&S; legislation.
