The Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) is seeking an experienced Facilities Coordinator to join our Operations team.
This is an opportunity to apply your facilities and building services experience within a purpose-built, world-class medical research environment. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be part of a small and collaborative Operations team responsible for supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the WIMR building.
The role combines facilities maintenance with building systems monitoring, fault finding, contractor coordination and operational support. You will also have the opportunity to develop your technical skills across Building Management Systems (BMS), HVAC, security and access control, lighting systems and other building automation technologies.

The Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) is seeking an experienced Facilities Coordinator to join our Operations team.

The role combines facilities maintenance with building systems monitoring, fault finding, contractor coordination and operational support. You will also have the opportunity to develop your technical skills across Building Management Systems (BMS), HVAC, security and access control, lighting systems and other building automation technologies.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake maintenance and operation of building infrastructure and services, including general facilities maintenance, minor repairs, inspections and physical works
- Respond to building alerts, faults and operational incidents
- Participate in an on-call roster and respond to out-of-hours incidents where required
- Coordinate and supervise external contractors undertaking specialist maintenance, servicing and system works
- Monitor the Building Management System (BMS) and other building control systems
- Perform system monitoring, fault finding,
trend review and optimisation activities across building systems, including HVAC plant and environmental controls
- Provide practical and technical support to the Operations team and assist with day-to-day building operations
- Provide technical input and coordination for maintenance activities affecting HVAC systems, laboratories and environmentally controlled areas
- Assist with building-related projects and technical system improvements
- Support inspections, contractor coordination, event setup and general building upkeep
About you
We are looking for an experienced facilities or building services professional with the technical knowledge and practical experience to support a complex research environment.
You will ideally have:
- 7+ years' experience in facilities management, building services, HVAC controls, technical maintenance or a similar environment
- Demonstrated experience in facilities maintenance, building services, plant operation, fault finding and repairs
- Experience working with Building Management Systems (BMS), HVAC controls or automated building services
- A trade qualification or trade background in electrical, mechanical, HVAC or a related building services discipline
- Experience coordinating contractors and maintenance activities across complex building environments
- A practical understanding of building maintenance, building services and associated control systems
- An understanding of HVAC plant operation, building services controls and system optimisation
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues and coordinate practical solutions
- The ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and take ownership of operational matters
- Robust organisational and communication skills
- Good digital literacy, including Microsoft Office and building systems software
- Sound judgement when assessing operational risks and balancing safety,
responsiveness and continuity of building services
