About theNational Competition Council
TheNational Competition Council (NCC) is entering an important newphase as Australia’s independent national institution forcompetition reform. Under the revitalised National CompetitionPolicy framework agreed by Australian governments, the NCC willhelp drive a renewed national focus on productivity, economicdynamism, regulatory reform and better outcomes for consumers,businesses and the broader community.
Through theIntergovernmental Agreement on National Competition Policy and theNational Competition Policy Federation Funding Agreement, theCouncil plays a central role in assessing State and Territoryreform progress, advising on the application of the NationalCompetition Principles, undertaking thematic reviews, supportingpublic understanding of competition reform, and providingindependent advice to the Commonwealth Treasurer. This expandedwork program gives the NCC a unique opportunity to shape howcompetition policy is implemented, understood and advanced acrossAustralia.
What you willdo as the Policy Advisor
The APS6Policy Advisor supports the delivery of the Council's NationalCompetition Policy assessment, review and advisory functions.Working under the direction of an EL1, the role undertakes policyanalysis, research and report preparation while managing discretework packages.
As the Policy Advisor, you will:
- Support delivery ofannual National Competition Policy assessments.
- Analyse evidenceprovided by jurisdictions against agreed reformcommitments.
- Prepare briefingpapers, assessment reports and Council papers.
- Undertake researchand policy analysis for Treasurer-requested competitionreviews.
- Support delivery ofthematic reviews on National CompetitionPrinciples.
- Contribute todevelopment of assessment methodologies, templates andguidance.
- Prepare ministerialbriefs, correspondence and policy advice.
