Early Childhood Lead Educator (Room Leader)

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Room Leader to support children to reach their full potential through play-based learning and meaningful relationships.

As a Room Leader, you will work collaboratively with educators, families, and the leadership team to deliver engaging educational programs aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and National Quality Framework (NQF).

About the role

The room leader is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of a room or group of children, including staff supervision and program delivery. Children's safety, rights and best interests are paramount in all aspects of the Service's operations, decision-making and functions. The room leader ensures that child safety and wellbeing take priority over all other considerations, including financial or management obligations, and are embedded within everyday practice, policies and procedures. In the absence of the director/nominated supervisor, the room leader undertakes responsibilities as the responsible person for the day-to-day management of the Service.

Key responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day operation of the assigned room, providing leadership and support to educators and staff within the team in line with relevant regulations, policies and procedures

In collaboration with the educational leader, assist with the development, implementation and reflection of the educational program to provide a high-quality program for all children and families

Facilitate a play-based learning environment and educational program that fosters exploration, curiosity and meaningful engagement for all children, while promoting agency, creativity and problem solving through hands-on, child-led and inquiry-based investigative experiences





Work with the educational leader to successfully plan, implement and evaluate an educational program aligned with an approved learning framework (EYLF/MTOP V2.0)

Document, assess and evaluate children's learning and development using a variety of methods, including observations, learning stories, portfolios, photos and digital documentation

Build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, educators, staff and management to deliver best outcomes for families and children

Promote a child safe environment and foster a child safe culture by ensuring the Service implements practices that prevent harm and protect children from abuse and neglect

Maintain extensive knowledge of child protection legislation, mandatory reporting obligations, and the Service's child safety policies

Ensure children do not leave the Service premises except in accordance with relevant legislation, Service policies and procedures, and maintain correct educator-to-child ratios and adequate supervision at all times

Implement procedures and daily practices that ensure the Service provides a safe, supportive and stimulating educational environment

About you

Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent) (as listed on the approved qualification list by ACECQA)

Current approved First Aid qualification

Current ACECQA approved anaphylaxis and emergency asthma management training

Current approved CPR training

National Child Safety Training

Approved Child Protection Training

Previous experience in a leadership role

Demonstrated knowledge of Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)



V2.0 and/or My Time Our Place Framework (MTOP) V2.0

Demonstrated knowledge of Education and Care Services National Law and Education and Care Services National Regulations

Valid Working with Children Check
