Harry the hirer Productions is looking for an industry-seasoned Technical Director to lead technical production at ILUMINA, our premium event venue in the heart of Sydney.

This is a senior role for someone who combines deep technical knowledge, robust client relationships and the judgement that comes from significant live-event experience.

The role

As Technical Director, you will provide technical leadership and consultancy for events at ILUMINA.

You will work closely with clients, producers and our onsite production team to turn event concepts and briefs into practical, creative and technically robust solutions.

Working in close partnership with ILUMINA’s Venue Director and Technical Operations Manager, you will form part of the venue management team, ensuring commercial, operational and technical requirements are aligned from planning through to delivery.

You will be a trusted technical partner to clients and the senior point of reference for our production team, bringing confidence, clarity and leadership to complex projects.

Key responsibilities

- Lead the technical planning and delivery of major and complex events
- Accurately translate client concepts into practical technical solutions
- Build strong relationships with clients, producers and venue stakeholders
- Provide senior technical input during planning and pre-production
- Review technical designs, signal paths and production schedules
- Identify technical risks early and develop appropriate solutions
- Lead and mentor technicians across audio, vision, lighting and associated disciplines




- Provide senior oversight onsite for high-profile events
- Act as the escalation point for complex technical planning and delivery
- Maintain consistently high personal and professional presentation standards
- Contribute to the ongoing development of ILUMINA’s systems, workflows and future technical capability

About you

You are an experienced live-events technical leader who is equally comfortable in a client meeting, a production office and on the show floor.

You will bring:

- Extensive experience in live events, corporate events, venues or event production
- Deep technical knowledge across modern professional AV systems
- Strong understanding of vision, video, LED and content workflows
- Broad working knowledge across audio, lighting, networking, control and system integration
- Proficiency with Vectorworks or similar technical design platforms
- Excellent judgement, troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
- Strong commercial awareness
- Confidence communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A calm, collaborative leadership style
