Location: Wollongong, NSW
Pay Rate: $68.64 per hour + Super
Contract: Until 31 December 2026
Work Arrangement: Full-time office attendance for the first month during training and onboarding, with flexible arrangements to be discussed with the manager thereafter.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Senior Guardian to join NSW Trustee & Guardian's Public Guardian team in Wollongong.
In this key role, you will deliver quality guardianship services and advocate for people with reduced decision-making capacity. You will manage complex guardianship matters, make informed decisions within delegated authority and work closely with customers, families, carers, service providers, health professionals and government agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement individual decision‑making plans and maintain accurate customer records.
- Undertake individual and systemic advocacy on behalf of customers.
- Make decisions within delegated authority and in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and Guardianship Standards.
- Prepare reports, submissions and recommendations for senior officers and the NSW Public Guardian.
- Prepare well‑reasoned reports for the Guardianship Division of NCAT and attend hearings when required.
- Provide advice and support in relation to complex guardianship cases and customer situations.
- Work collaboratively with families, carers, health professionals, service providers and government agencies.
- Manage complex or contentious matters with professionalism, objectivity and empathy.
- Conduct visits to people represented by the NSW Public Guardian.
- Develop strong knowledge of local services and support networks relevant to guardianship matters.

The role requires strong advocacy, communication and negotiation skills, particularly when working through complex or contentious matters involving customers and multiple stakeholders.

About You To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

- A degree in social, health or behavioural sciences, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience managing complex cases and making considered, evidence‑based decisions.
- Strong written communication skills, including preparing professional reports and recommendations.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, advocacy and negotiation skills.
- The ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Sound judgement and the ability to work within legislation, policies and delegated authority.
- The ability to travel throughout NSW when required.
