What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the CICADA Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Clinic Co-ordinator is to provide oversight and co-ordination of the multidisciplinary clinicians within the service to enhance the clinical service. The CICADA Centre NSW offers Care and Intervention for Children and Adolescents affected by drugs and alcohol. A lifespan care approach, based in a tertiary paediatric hospital, is delivered through three clinical services: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Service, Family Service and Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Service. Quality improvement, research, teaching and education are essential parts of the CICADA service.
The FASD Service provides clinical assessment for children and adolescents with a history of prenatal alcohol exposure or whom a diagnosis of FASD is suspected. This includes a developmental multidisciplinary assessment, formulation of a diagnostic report and recommendations for ongoing support and intervention.
The Clinic Co-ordinator will ensure effective intake and triage for the clinic, collaboration of referral information, clinician allocation, and collaboration. They will liaise with referring clinicians, family members, health professionals, education, and family and community services to collate medical, social, and neurocognitive assessments to facilitate the FASD clinical assessment.
Additionally, the role involves liaison and referral to community supports, including access to NDIS as required, provision of expert clinical care and education to children and their families within a defined specialty, and a consultancy and educational focus forward-based nurses in the care of children and their families. In collaboration and consultation with key stakeholders, the Clinical Nurse Consultant will undertake primary responsibility for ongoing education, development, and evaluation of clinical practice.
