Business Development Manager - Foodservice - Food manufacturing
My client is a Brisbane based FMCG manufacturing business, headquartered in Murarrie. The company has an enviable reputation for quality products, state of the art manufacturing and supplies ingredients and flavour systems to food manufacturers and retail customers across Australia and internationally. They are now investing in a current, ground-up Foodservice channel as a core growth pillar, with a target over three years across Healthcare, Aged Care, Pub & Club, Contract Catering and QSR segments. They are a small, energetic, quality focused and fun team poised for further growth, and they are looking for a proactive, dynamic, ‘out of the box thinking’ sales professional to join their team in this newly created role.
Based in Murarrie, and reporting to the Head of Sales, you will be responsible for building this channel from scratch: developing a chef-led product range and catalogue in partnership with the innovation and R&D; teams, and converting that range into new customer relationships and revenue. Your experience developing menu’s with clients is an essential part of the role.
In parallel, this role takes ownership of growing the existing account portfolio, and supports the Sales & Marketing team's presence at major retail and foodservice trade shows.
This is a dual-mandate role suited to an experienced chef who wants to move into a commercial, customer-facing career — someone who understands menus, kitchens and operators from the inside, and is ready to translate that credibility into new business. Career progression is very realistic.
Key duties will include:
Foodservice Channel Development (build from the ground up)
- Work directly with the Chef Consultant, Innovation and R&D; teams to design and develop a Foodservice product range and formal catalogue tailored to Healthcare, Pub & Club, Contract Catering and QSR menus.
- Lead menu development conversations with prospective operators and group purchasing/foodservice distributors — translating culinary concepts into commercially viable, cost-effective ingredient and solution offers.
- Build the market from a standing start: identify target accounts, generate leads, run product trials/tastings, and convert pipeline into signed business.
- Support development of pricing, specifications and commercial terms for new Foodservice listings, in line with the margin and quality standards.
Existing Account Growth
- Own and grow the existing account portfolio, with a clear plan to lift revenue by 30%-40%
- Manage day-to-day relationships across the assigned account base, identifying volume, range extension and new product opportunities within each account.
Trade Show & Market Presence
- Assist the Head of Sales & Marketing in planning and delivering presence at major retail and foodservice trade shows (e.g. Fine Foods Australia, SIAL Paris, and relevant foodservice-specific events).
We're specifically interested in experienced chefs — from a commercial kitchen, contract catering,
healthcare foodservice or hospitality background — who are ready to step out of the kitchen and into a commercial development role. Prior formal B2B sales experience is not required; what matters is deep menu and kitchen credibility, curiosity about the commercial side of food, and the drive to build something new.
Ideally you will have the following work experience, skills, and personal qualities:
- Significant hands-on chef experience (commercial kitchen, contract catering, healthcare/aged care foodservice, club/pub, or QSR environment).
- Strong understanding of menu development, food costing and kitchen operations.
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable presenting to chefs, operators, buyers and internal stakeholders alike.
- Self-starter, comfortable building a new territory/channel with limited existing infrastructure.
- Willingness and ability to travel for customer visits and trade shows.
- Prior exposure to foodservice distribution, group purchasing organisations, or ingredient/protein manufacturing.
- Existing relationships within Healthcare, Aged Care, Pub & Club or QSR foodservice circles.
- Formal culinary qualification (Certificate III/IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent).
What's On Offer
- An attractive salary package commensurate with the seniority of the role is available.
- A genuine ground-floor opportunity to build a new channel and shape its direction.
- Direct collaboration with the Innovation, R&D; and Quality teams.
- Career pathway from culinary background into commercial/sales leadership.
- Support and mentoring from the Head of Sales & Marketing throughout onboarding.
