About the role
Are you an experienced Clinical Nurse with Infection Prevention and Control qualification, looking for a unique chance on beautiful Norfolk Island?

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Clinical Nurse – Infection Prevention and Control (CN-IPC) to join our team in a remote island location. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide Infection control services at NIHRACS embracing the values of Excellence, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork. The CN-IPC will lead the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program at NIHRACS. The position supports best practice and maintains a safe environment for residents, patients, and staff across the Health Service facility, while contributing to positive community health outcomes and a culture of care and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop, review and support the implementation of infection prevention and control policies and procedures within NIHRACS
· Monitor compliance with infection prevention policies and procedures, including hand hygiene, and PPE use.
· Educate and train staff in infection control practices, outbreak management, and safe equipment handling. This includes patient, resident and community education on their role in infection prevention and control.
· Conduct surveillance activities by monitoring and analysing infection data to identify outbreaks, trends, and report findings as required to relevant NIHRACS committees.
· Undertake risk assessments to identify potential infection transmission risks and implement corrective actions.
· Lead and coordinate outbreak management responses, including patient isolation and source identification.
· Maintain current knowledge of infection control guidelines and update organisational practices accordingly.
· Recognise and respect cultural diversity within the community, adapting healthcare practices to meet patient and resident needs and preferences.
Selection Criteria:
· Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
· Relevant qualification – IPC education modules e.g. Foundations of Infection Prevention and Control (ACIPC) and/or Graduate Certificate in Infection Prevention & Control or Postgraduate qualification
· At least 5 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse and one year or greater experience in IPC.
· Vaccinations in accordance with Class A requirements.
· Demonstrated ability to work in culturally diverse communities and adapt care approaches to the local population’s values, customs, and healthcare beliefs
· Employment screening checks (National Criminal Record Check / National Criminal Record Check Aged Care / Working with Children Check).
· Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and adapt to changing needs and conditions in a remote setting
Additionally, you will be able to demonstrate:
· Effective communication skills
· Computer literacy skills
· Knowledge of KPIs relevant to the position
· Your ability to apply NIHRACS values within this role.
Remuneration
Renumeration will align with the NIHRACS Enterprise Agreement 2024-2028, with an indicative salary of $3,979 gross per fortnight, plus 12.5% Superannuation and locality allowance.
