Are you a skilled data professional who wants to do morethan build reports? Banyule City Council is looking for a Data Analyst to helpshape how we use data to make better decisions, improve services and deliverstronger outcomes for our community.
About the role
This rolegoes far beyond building reports and dashboards. You will take ownership fromunderstanding business requirements through data modelling, solution design,development, deployment and ongoing improvement, delivering data solutions thatcreate real value for Council and the community.
You willhave the opportunity to help shape and build a modern data platform usingMicrosoft Fabric and Power BI. This is a unique chance to influence the future directionof Council's analytics capability while working with modern cloud-basedtechnologies and best practices
This is a role for someone who enjoys the full lifecycle ofdata delivery: understanding requirements, shaping the solution, modelling thedata, developing dashboards, deploying fit-for-purpose reporting products andcontinuously improving them over time.
What you'll be doing
Design,build and improve Power BI dashboards, reports and data visualisationsthat support evidence-based decision-making.
UseSQL to extract, transform, validate and analyse data from a range ofbusiness systems.
Developrobust data models and reporting structures that are accurate, scalableand easy to use.
Workindependently with stakeholders to clarify business needs, identify thereal problem to be solved, and recommend practical data solutions.
Contributeto the development of Banyule's data platform using Microsoft Fabric andbest-practice analytics approaches.
Translatecomplex data into clear insights, recommendations and stories thatnon-technical audiences can understand and act on.
Supportbetter data governance, quality, documentation and continuous improvementacross Council's reporting and analytics environment.
About you and what we are looking for
You will bring strong technical skills in Power BI, SQL,Microsoft Fabric and data modelling,
together with the curiosity andcommunication skills needed to work well with stakeholders. You are comfortableasking thoughtful questions, challenging assumptions and looking beyond theinitial reporting request to understand what the business area is really tryingto achieve.
We are looking for someone who can work with a good degreeof independence, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality dataproducts that are trusted, sustainable and genuinely useful. You'll have:
Tertiaryqualification in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science,Statistics or a relevant discipline, or equivalent demonstratedexperience.
Demonstratedexperience developing dashboards and reports using modern businessintelligence platforms, including strong data modelling and SQL skills.
Practicalexperience with Microsoft Fabric or similar modern data platform tools.
Demonstratedability to engage stakeholders, understand business needs, and translatethem into forward-thinking, strategic data solutions rather than reactiveoutputs.
Soundunderstanding of data governance, data quality and data securityprinciples as applied to reporting and analytics assets.
Stronganalytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpretcomplex data and communicate insights clearly to non-technical audiences.
Demonstratedexperience building and maintaining effective working relationships acrossdiverse business areas.
Experienceworking in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment, with local governmentexperience considered an advantage.
