Base Salary from $80,008 (pro rata) + Super 12%| SCHADS Level 3

About the role
n
This is an internal opportunity for a self-aware LGBTIQA+ Peer Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team at the Cairns Medicare Mental Health Centre.
n
Drawing on your lived or living experience of mental health and/or alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges, you will walk alongside people experiencing distress, crisis, or mental health challenges, providing person-centred, recovery-oriented support grounded in mutuality and shared understanding.
n
As a Peer Practitioner, you will champion the voice of lived experience, promote human rights, and utilise Intentional Peer Support (IPS) and recovery-oriented practices to support individuals to identify their strengths, achieve their goals, build hope, and reconnect with community.

Key responsibilities
n
n
Provide individual peer support grounded in your own LGBTIQA+ lived/living experience of mental health and/or AOD challenges.
n
Utilise the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) framework to walk alongside individuals in distress.
n
Support individuals to identify strengths, goals and opportunities for recovery, independence and community participation.
n
Develop and facilitate groups that foster peer connection, wellbeing and inclusion for LGBTIQA+ community members.
n
Assist people to navigate systems and connect with services and supports that promote wellbeing and recovery.
n
Champion lived experience and recovery-oriented practice within a multidisciplinary workplace.
n
Support co-design and continuous service improvement through peer co-reflection, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
n

What you'll bring
n
n
Lived or living experience of mental health and/or AOD challenges as a member of the LGBTIQA+ community, with a willingness to share your learnings to support others.
n
Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer work, AOD, or other health-related field are required.
n
Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, or Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work is highly desirable.
n
A commitment to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, person-centred and anti-oppressive practice.
n
Availability to work a rotating roster including evenings and weekends.
