As Head of Legal, Commercial, you will lead a highly experienced team of lawyers responsible for supporting key third-party relationships across NAB.
You will act as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders, providing clear, strategic and commercially focused legal advice.

Each day you'll go above and beyond to:
Lead, develop and engage a highly skilled team of Commercial Legal lawyers, creating an setting where the team can do great work, grow their capability and stay connected to NAB's strategy
Provide strategic legal advice on commercial contracts, procurement arrangements, key third-party relationships and projects aligned with NAB's priorities
Act as a trusted adviser to senior business stakeholders, translating legal issues into clear, practical and commercially manageable outcomes
Oversee advice on contract interpretation, disputes, regulatory change, internal policies and matters within the team's scope
Prioritise and strengthen relationships across NAB
Identify, call out and remove unnecessary complexity, including through streamlined processes, simpler documents, precedents and playbooks
Proactively identify legal, regulatory, commercial and reputational risks,



and work with stakeholders to manage risk within NAB's appetite
Role model NAB's Service Behaviours and bring a customer-focused, collaborative and constructive approach to leadership

You'll bring:
You are an experienced senior lawyer and people leader who combines legal excellence with commercial judgment and strategic thinking with a strong focus on developing others.
You are comfortable operating with significant autonomy, influencing at senior levels and helping the business make decisions that are clear, practical and aligned to NAB's strategy and risk appetite.
Bachelor of Laws qualification, admission to legal practice in Australia and a current practising certificate
12+ years post-qualification experience at a major law firm or in a relevant in-house role, ideally advising on strategic commercial matters
Demonstrated experience leading, developing and engaging high-performing teams
Significant experience providing commercial legal support on strategic commercial projects or agreements, including procurement arrangements, contract interpretation and disputes
Strong commercial acumen and the ability to go beyond black letter legal advice to influence business outcomes
Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders
Experience with legal operations, process improvement, simplification initiatives, precedents or playbooks would be highly regarded
Exposure to the Australian regulatory environment and financial services regulatory issues would be beneficial
