Let’s Talk About the Role
At Resmed, the health and safety of our people is fundamental to how we work.
We are looking for a Health & Safety Advisor who is passionate about creating safer workplaces and enjoys working alongside leaders and teams to turn good safety practices into everyday habits.
In this role, you will be a trusted Health & Safety partner across our Australian operations, providing practical advice, strengthening our safety systems and helping leaders and teams build a proactive safety culture where everyone takes ownership of safety.
This is more than a compliance role. You will spend time where the work happens – partnering with leaders and employees, understanding how work is performed, solving practical safety challenges and identifying opportunities to continuously improve the way we work.
If you enjoy combining technical Health & Safety expertise with coaching, problem-solving and genuine partnership, this is an opportunity to make a visible impact on the safety and experience of our people.
Responsibilities:
Be a trusted Health & Safety partner
You will work closely with leaders and employees to make Health & Safety practical, accessible and part of everyday decision-making.
You will:
- Provide timely and practical Health & Safety advice to leaders, employees and key stakeholders.
- Interpret WHS legislation, standards and internal requirements and translate them into practical workplace solutions.
- Coach leaders to understand and confidently fulfil their Health & Safety responsibilities.
- Build strong relationships across manufacturing, operational and corporate teams.
- Support effective consultation and engagement with employees, Health & Safety Representatives and Health & Safety Committees.
- Lead and embed a proactive safety culture by partnering with leaders and teams to strengthen safety ownership, accountability and everyday safe behaviours.
- Foster an environment where employees feel confident to speak up about safety, proactively identify and report risks, and contribute ideas that improve workplace safety.
Strengthen risk management & prevention
A key focus of the role is helping us identify risks early and prevent incidents before they occur.
You will:
- Facilitate and support workplace risk assessments, hazard identification and implementation of effective controls.
- Partner with teams to review existing controls and identify opportunities to strengthen them.
- Maintain and support effective management of Health & Safety risk registers.
- Analyse hazards, incidents, near misses and safety observations to identify trends and emerging risks.
- Translate insights into practical preventative actions and improvement initiatives.
- Provide Health & Safety input into workplace changes, new equipment, processes and projects.
- Support ergonomic and workplace design risk assessments from a preventative and systems perspective.
Support incident investigation & continuous improvement
When incidents occur, you will help the organisation learn from them and prevent recurrence.
You will:
- Support the timely reporting, assessment and investigation of workplace incidents and near misses.
- Facilitate effective incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Partner with leaders to develop practical corrective and preventative actions.
- Monitor actions through to completion and evaluate whether controls have been effective.
- Identify recurring themes and use insights to shape broader Health & Safety improvement priorities.
- Support the development and delivery of Health & Safety improvement plans, initiatives and projects.
Build Health & Safety capability
Outstanding safety outcomes come from capable and confident leaders and teams.
You will:
- Develop and deliver engaging Health & Safety training, education and awareness programs.
- Provide ongoing coaching to leaders and employees on safe work practices and risk management.
- Support Health & Safety inductions and other required safety training.
- Identify capability gaps and recommend practical ways to strengthen safety knowledge and behaviours.
- Develop clear and engaging Health & Safety communications, tools and resources.
- Support safety campaigns and initiatives that encourage active employee participation.
Strengthen our Health & Safety systems
You will help ensure our Health & Safety systems remain effective, contemporary and easy for our people to use.
You will:
- Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Health & Safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
- Help maintain and strengthen our Health & Safety Management System.
- Support internal and external Health & Safety audits, inspections and assurance activities.
- Monitor corrective actions, audit findings and improvement commitments through to closure.
- Maintain accurate Health & Safety documentation, records and reporting.
- Monitor Health & Safety performance indicators and provide meaningful insights to leaders.
- Support compliance with applicable WHS legislation, regulatory requirements and Resmed standards.
Let’s Talk About You
You are a practical and collaborative Health & Safety professional who enjoys being close to the business and making safety work in the real world.
You are comfortable moving between the shop floor and leadership conversations – whether that means facilitating a risk assessment, investigating an incident, coaching a leader or using data to identify where we can do better.
You bring curiosity and sound judgement. Rather than simply pointing to a policy or requirement, you seek to understand the work, engage the people closest to it and find solutions that are both safe and practical.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in a Health & Safety, WHS role.
- Sound knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, regulations and contemporary Health & Safety practices.
- Experience undertaking risk assessments, incident investigations and corrective action management.
- The ability to interpret Health & Safety requirements and translate them into practical workplace solutions.
- Strong consultation, coaching and influencing skills.
- Confidence partnering with leaders and employees at different levels of an organisation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, prevention-focused mindset.
- The ability to analyse safety information and trends and translate insights into meaningful action.
- Strong organisational and documentation skills.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across a broader team.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- A relevant qualification in Work Health & Safety, Health & Safety, Risk Management or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working in a Health & Safety advisory role.
- Practical experience with workplace risk assessment, incident investigation and Health & Safety management systems.
- Working knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, consultation and communication skills.
We'd Also Love to See
- Experience within manufacturing, medical devices, healthcare, engineering or another highly regulated environment.
- Experience working with ISO 45001 or another recognised Health & Safety management system.
- Formal incident investigation or root cause analysis training.
- Experience supporting Health & Safety audits and regulatory interactions.
- Experience delivering Health & Safety training and coaching leaders.
- Exposure to ergonomics, manual handling, machinery safety, hazardous substances or contractor safety.
- Experience supporting organisational change, new equipment, facility or process risk assessments.
