Parliamentary Services Specialist

Rate: Daily rate of $800

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Parliamentary Services Specialist to join a busy government team responsible for delivering high-quality, time-critical parliamentary and Ministerial services.
This is a senior role suited to someone with strong parliamentary writing, government knowledge, stakeholder engagement and political awareness. You will independently manage parliamentary requests from inception through to completion, often working to tight deadlines and on sensitive or high-profile matters.
Working closely with internal stakeholders, subject matter experts and Parliamentary Liaison teams, you will bring together complex information from across the organisation and develop clear, concise and politically appropriate responses for Ministers, Cabinet and Parliament.
Key responsibilities
- Independently research, draft and deliver high-quality parliamentary responses and products.
- Consolidate information from multiple teams and portfolios into clear, accurate and cohesive responses.
- Manage urgent, critical and politically sensitive requests, ensuring they meet Ministerial expectations and required deadlines.
- Anticipate areas of potential parliamentary scrutiny and prepare appropriate supporting information and materials.
- Ensure all written products are clear, concise, accurate and tailored to the intended audience.
- Apply strong political awareness when developing content, ensuring responses align with government and Ministerial priorities, key messaging and the broader political environment.
- Liaise directly with subject matter experts to clarify information, address gaps and validate content while maintaining ownership of the final response.
- Independently quality assure parliamentary products, ensuring accuracy, consistency, compliance and presentation standards are met.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the organisation.
- Provide advice and support to stakeholders on parliamentary and Ministerial engagement.
- Work collaboratively with Parliamentary Liaison, Government Relations and other internal teams to improve processes, consistency and service delivery.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives designed to streamline parliamentary services and reduce reactive requests.
- Remain flexible and responsive to urgent parliamentary matters, including occasional after-hours work when required.
About you
You will be an experienced government professional with a strong understanding of parliamentary processes, Ministerial engagement and politically sensitive communications.
You will ideally have:
- Demonstrated experience developing parliamentary products, Ministerial responses, government briefings or similar high-level communications.
- Strong knowledge of government operations and the processes supporting effective parliamentary and Ministerial engagement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to independently produce clear, concise and politically attuned content.
- Strong political awareness and the ability to understand the sensitivities surrounding government and Ministerial communications.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a solid focus on accuracy, compliance and quality.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the confidence to work with SMEs and senior stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage high volumes of work, competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- The ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement and take ownership of deliverables.
- Experience working in a government, parliamentary, Ministerial, policy or government relations environment will be highly regarded.
- Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent professional experience.
