We are seeking qualified Painters to join our team of dedicated professionals. We offer full-time permanent employment and short-term 3-6 months' non-ongoing contracts with above-award pay rates fully guaranteed under current workplace regulations.
As a Painter you are responsible for the preparation, abrasive blasting, and application of protective coating systems to steel and other substrates in accordance with client specifications, industry standards, and company Safety and quality requirements. The role operates across construction, mining, marine, and oil & gas projects, with a strong focus on safety, quality, environmental compliance, and productivity.
Key Performance Indicators & Accountabilities - Roles and Responsibilities
Surface Preparation
Mobilise and demobilise blasting hoppers, spray pumps, encapsulation systems, and associated equipment.
Prepare surfaces through abrasive blasting ranging from whip blasting to Class SA 3 on ferrous and non-ferrous substrates.
Operate blasting equipment using garnet, steel grit, and other approved abrasive media.
Inspect prepared surfaces to ensure compliance with coating specifications and cleanliness standards.
Protective Coating Application
Mix and apply protective coating systems in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and project specifications.
Apply coatings using airless spray equipment, brushes, and rollers.
Apply striped coats to welds, edges, bolts, and difficult-to-coat areas.
Apply multi-coat systems while achieving specified Dry Film Thickness (DFT) requirements.
Apply a range of coating systems including: Inorganic zinc coatings, Epoxy zinc primers, High-build epoxy coatings, Antifouling coatings, Acrylic & polyurethane finishes.
Conduct touch-up and remediation work following quality inspections to achieve specification compliance.
Quality Assurance
Work to industrial coating specifications, inspection test plans (ITPs), and client quality requirements.
Measure and record Wet Film Thickness (WFT) and Dry Film Thickness (DFT) where required.
Complete remedial work identified during quality inspections.
Maintain accurate production and quality records Safety Management.
Comply with all workplace health and safety legislation, company policies, and client requirements.
Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement appropriate controls.
Participate in incident reporting and investigations.
Promote a positive safety culture and lead by example
General Duties
Assist with general workshop and site duties as required.
Participate in pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support supervisors and project teams to achieve production schedules and project milestones.
Environmental Management
Comply with environmental management plans and legislative requirements.
Minimise waste and prevent environmental contamination.
Correctly manage hazardous substances and waste disposal.
Ensure blasting containment and environmental protection controls are maintained
Audits and Inspections
Participate in internal and external quality and safety audits.
Cooperate with coating inspectors and quality personnel.
Rectify identified defects promptly.
Maintain accurate documentation and inspection records.
Commercial
Complete work efficiently to meet project budgets and schedules.
Minimise rework through quality workmanship.
Care for company equipment and materials to reduce waste.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity and customer satisfaction
Skills and Knowledge
Demonstrated experience working to industrial coating specifications.
Experience in construction, mining, oil & gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
Current White Card.
Current Australian Driver Licence.
Strong understanding of safe work practices.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Reliable, proactive, and safety focused.
Qualifications
Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application.
AMPP (formerly NACE) Coating Inspection qualification.
Asbestos Class A and/or Class B Licence.
Working at Heights certification.
Confined Space Entry certification.
Elevated Work Platform (EWP) and Forklift licences
Technical Competency
Interpret coating specifications, product data sheets, and work instructions.
Operate blasting and spray-painting equipment safely and efficiently.
Achieve specified coating thickness and quality.
Maintain equipment in a serviceable condition
