THE ROLE

The Regulatory Officer plays an key role in delivering the Victorian Social Services Regulator's functions under the Social Services Regulation Act 2021 (the Act) and regulatory frameworks.

Working in the Social Services Regulation Branch, this role may undertake a range of regulatory responsibilities, including ensuring regulated entities' compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.

Regulatory officers utilise the full suite of regulatory tools available to monitor compliance and respond to non-compliance, from the provision of authoritative regulatory advice to investigation and enforcement activities.

This role is expected to have expertise in understanding and applying principles of risk-based regulation to the regulatory activities for which the team is responsible. Responsibilities can include conducting risk-based assessments, investigations, and regulatory interventions, supporting the registration and monitoring of providers, management and organising of incoming notifications, data and intelligence, and ensuring service provider compliance with quality and safeguarding obligations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

- Contribute to complex, sensitive assessments and investigations of regulated entities (both proactive and responsive), negotiate resolution and – where necessary – prepare and present evidence to inform regulatory action.




- Ensure regulatory actions proposed are informed by risk and knowledge of the regulatory landscape, including the SSR's remit and the role of peer regulators and law enforcement authorities.
- Support effective and timely information sharing.
- Provide advice and guidance to duty holders on behalf of the SSR to support their compliance with regulatory responsibilities.
- Apply sound regulatory knowledge in providing advice on the implications of taking proposed regulatory action.
