About the role
This is a new position and it is the one that keeps the business supplied. You will own what we buy and what we hold. Raising purchase orders, running the monthly purchasing cycle, setting stock levels, and making sure the parts are there before the job needs them. You will also keep our bills of materials right and release the assembly orders that tell the factory what to build.
Alongside that you are a key part of our sales desk. Answering customer calls, entering orders, quoting, and giving people straight answers about where their order is. Our customers are workshops and installers with trucks off the road, so looking after them well matters as much as the planning side. Over time you will build real knowledge of the product range, which is what turns a coordinator into the person everybody asks.
Nobody currently owns this end to end, which is exactly why the job exists. You will be given it to run.
Key responsibilities
- Running the daily manufacturing cycle in Ostendo, our ERP
- Setting stock levels, reorder points and lead times, and keeping them current
- Maintaining bills of materials and releasing assembly orders to the factory
- Finding and resolving component shortages before they stop a job
- Investigating stock variances, and setting what gets counted and how often
- Answering customer enquiries, entering sales orders and providing delivery estimates
- Booking freight and tracking inbound shipments
- Monthly inventory and purchasing reporting
- General office and administrative duties as required
About you
- Strong customer service and phone communication. Confident on the phone, clear in writing, and comfortable giving a workshop a straight answer when they need one today
- Genuinely good with technology. Confident across email, files, spreadsheets and business systems, and quick to pick up new software
- Someone who takes ownership. Sees a problem, works out the next step, and follows it through
- Accurate with numbers and detail. Part numbers, quantities, prices and dates have to be right, because everything downstream depends on it
- Curious about how things are made. An interest in trucks, engines, mechanical or manufacturing work
- Suited to a small team, where everyone helps when it is busy
- Purchasing, inventory, stores or supply chain experience in a manufacturing or trade business
- Experience with an ERP or inventory system. Ours is Ostendo
- Any understanding of MRP, reorder points, min-max levels or bills of materials
- Experience in the automotive, transport, refrigeration or engineering industries
