DRAFTSMAN / PRODUCTION COORDINATOR

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are a long-standing family business in Bayswater specialising in custom steel and aluminium fencing, gates and architectural metalwork.

We are seeking an experienced Draftsman to prepare concept drawings, client approval drawings and detailed shop drawings. This is a broad role that will also take responsibility for the work required to move each job from design through to production.

The role will involve spending time in the office, assisting staff in the workshop and may include attending sites to complete check measures when required. You will work closely with the Director, customers, suppliers and our production team.

This position would suit someone who is highly organised, practical and comfortable taking ownership of a job rather than focusing solely on drafting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Drafting and design

• Prepare concept drawings based on customer requirements and project information
• Produce elevations and approval drawings for customers before manufacture
• Prepare accurate shop drawings for our production team
• Revise drawings following customer feedback, updated information or production queries
• Create basic 3D models or renderings where required and within your skill set
• Maintain clear and accurate drawing records throughout each project

Job preparation and production support

• Prepare take-offs, worksheets, order forms and other production documentation
• Calculate and order the materials required for each job
• Send orders and specifications to external suppliers
• Check that drawings, measurements, materials and finishes are confirmed before manufacture




• Answer questions from production staff and clarify drawing or job details
• Work with the production team to resolve practical issues that arise during manufacture
• Help keep jobs moving through drafting, approval and production
• Once sufficiently familiar with our products and processes, attend sites to complete check measures when requested

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Solid AutoCAD skills and the ability to produce accurate, production-ready drawings
• Experience preparing concept drawings, elevations and detailed shop drawings
• A practical understanding of how drawings translate into manufactured and installed work
• Strong attention to detail, particularly with dimensions, materials and finishes
• The ability to complete accurate take-offs and prepare material orders
• Valuable organisational skills and the ability to manage several jobs at different stages
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Confidence communicating with customers, suppliers and production staff
• The ability to attend sites and complete check measures when requested and once familiar with our requirements
• A flexible attitude and willingness to assist the production team when needed
• A willingness to follow guidance and learn our products,



fabrication methods and required documentation
• A current Australian driver’s licence

Formal qualifications in drafting or architecture are not essential. Practical ability, AutoCAD proficiency and relevant experience are more important to us.

Experience with steel or aluminium fabrication, fencing, gates, architectural metalwork, construction or another custom manufacturing environment would be highly regarded.

Basic 3D modelling or rendering skills would also be an advantage.
