The Position
We're looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Accounts Officer to join our Finance team full-time in our Darwin office. This is a genuine long-term opportunity for someone who wants a well-rounded career in bookkeeping and to grow with a small, stable business - not a stepping-stone role.
Day-to-day, you'll work closely with our Accounts Payable Officer, supporting the processing of bills from receipt through to payment. You'll also train across accounts receivable and payroll, so you're ready to step in and cover the Accounts Receivable Officer during their extended leave over the Christmas period, and provide payroll cover when needed. This is a hands-on, well-rounded role for someone who wants genuine cross-training across a small finance team - it's not a reporting, management, or IFRS-level position, so please only apply if you're looking for real day-to-day processing work.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Accounts Payable Officer with end-to-end bill processing: reviewing, coding and processing supplier bills through to payment (your primary day-to-day focus)
- Train into accounts receivable - invoicing, payment allocation, and following up outstanding balances - so you can confidently cover the Accounts Receivable Officer during extended Christmas leave
- Provide payroll cover during the Payroll Officer's leave (training provided)
- Prepare and process payment runs and batches
- Perform supplier statement and bank reconciliations
- Follow up bill and invoice discrepancies with vendors and customers
- Support month-end reconciliation tasks
- Maintain accurate, organised financial records
- Provide general administrative support to the Finance team
- If you have an IT/systems background, there's scope to help set up accounting software for recent clients (not essential)
What We're Looking For
- At least 2-3 years' hands-on accounts payable and/or accounts receivable experience
- Confident, current experience with Xero (essential)
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Someone looking for a long-term, well-rounded role they can grow in - we're investing in training and want someone who'll invest back
- Comfortable working closely with the AP Officer day-to-day, and confident enough to step into AR independently when needed
- Strong communication skills and a professional phone manner
- Reliable, proactive, and able to manage priorities in a fast-paced small team
- Australian work rights required
Why Join Us
- A genuine full-time, ongoing role - not casual or temporary
- Well-rounded, hands-on exposure across AP, AR and payroll - a real chance to broaden your skill set, not just repeat one task
- A small, supportive Darwin-based team where your work has real impact
- We invest in training and want to grow this role - and you - with the business
Apply now with your resume and a short note on your AP/AR experience and what you're looking for in your next role.
