Accountant | Small Business Workplace

We are partnering with an established organisation to recruit a CA/CPA qualified Accountant who thrives in a smaller, hands-on finance environment.

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this is not a role for someone who wants to sit within a large finance team and own one small piece of the puzzle.

We’re looking for someone who is prepared to roll up their sleeves, take ownership and get things done.

You’ll work closely with the FC across the day-to-day accounting function, month-end, reporting, budgeting and general finance activities. When things get busy, you’ll be someone the FC can rely on to step up, solve problems and keep the finance function moving.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include

- Taking ownership of month-end processes including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations
- Preparing monthly management and financial reporting
- Maintaining the general ledger and balance sheet integrity
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
- Assisting with cash flow management and financial planning
- Supporting year-end, audit and statutory reporting requirements
- Working across AP, AR and payroll when required rather than operating within strict functional boundaries
- Investigating issues and proactively finding solutions
- Improving finance processes and identifying opportunities to work more efficiently
- Acting as a trusted support to the Financial Controller during busy periods and periods of leave





About You This role will suit someone who has worked within a small or medium-sized business environment where accountants are expected to be practical, adaptable and comfortable getting involved across the entire finance function.

You will ideally bring

- CA or CPA qualification
- Strong hands-on financial accounting experience
- Previous experience within a small or medium-sized organisation
- Solid month-end, balance sheet and general ledger capability
- Experience preparing management reports, budgets and forecasts
- The confidence to work independently and make decisions
- A proactive, energetic and solutions-focused approach
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with senior stakeholders
- A willingness to jump into whatever needs to be done
- Not-for-profit experience is advantageous but not essential

We’re particularly interested in someone who sees a problem and takes responsibility for fixing it, rather than waiting to be told what to do.
