$88.29 per hour + Super (36.25 hours per week, PAYG)
ASAP Start - 05/03/2027 (possible extension)
Position overview: The Principal Governance & Risk Officer is a senior corporate governance role within the organisation, providing authoritative strategic advice across governance, risk, and assurance. The role supports the organisation's commercialised operating environment within Queensland Government by ensuring strong corporate accountability, effective risk management, and contemporary governance practices.
This position works closely with executives, senior management, internal audit, departmental business areas, and central agencies to strengthen organisational performance, resilience, and governance maturity.
Mandatory position requirements:
- Development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organisation's strategic planning, performance, risk management, and governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements, ISO standards, and government expectations.
- Provide effective governance for the organisation's business governance activities, including internal audit, legal and Right to Information (RTI) matters, and insurances.
- Provide high-quality advice and guidance to executives and staff on contemporary best practices in planning, risk management, audit, and governance practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to foster a contemporary operating environment that applies best practice approaches to strategic and operational planning, performance management, risk management,
and governance, seeking integrated solutions.
- Research and prepare complex reports, submissions, and briefs on a broad range of governance-related issues for the organisation's senior and executive management and committees.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships within the organisation, with relevant Department internal business areas, central agencies, and other departments and agencies, professionally representing the organisation's interests.
- Embed a positive, risk-aware culture and strong accountability principles by facilitating discussions, workshops, and fostering a risk community of practice to build competency and awareness.
- Facilitate, and participate in the management of strategic projects that underpin the organisation's governance, fulfil accountability requirements, and support departmental and whole-of-government strategic objectives.
- Establish and maintain tools and resources that support good governance practices and facilitate capability development, including operating communities of practice.
Additional requirements and/or highly desirable skills:
- High level knowledge and practical skills in planning, performance, risk, and governance functions,
coupled with a commitment to continuous learning and development.
- Ability to achieve results in a demanding setting, effectively resolving issues that could impact outcomes.
- Highly developed analytical and strategic management skills, enabling you to provide clear direction and high-quality advice at a senior level, making informed decisions that are rigorously considered and well-supported by clear rationale.
- Proven ability to build and maintain productive relationships, communicating, negotiating, influencing, networking, and consulting effectively with all levels of government and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated personal responsibility in meeting objectives, working flexibly with minimal supervision, proactively driving delivery, and navigating obstacles in a changing and ambiguous environment.
- Strong capability in organising resources, building team capability, and monitoring performance, while working collaboratively and professionally with the team and modelling ethical and respectful behaviour.
- Government agency risk management - planning and risk controls.
