API Gateway Engineer (Apigee / Red Hat / Ansible)

Salary: $140,000 - $155,000 + Super

About the Role

Our client is a well-established organisation seeking an experienced API Gateway Engineer to join their platform team. This role covers onboarding, implementation, and ongoing support activities across the API Gateway (Apigee) environment and underlying Red Hat infrastructure.

This is a outstanding opportunity for someone with strong Linux administration skills, hands-on Ansible experience, and exposure to API Gateway/Apigee onboarding processes, who enjoys working across both technical delivery and process/documentation.

Key Responsibilities

- Support onboarding activities for API Gateway Services, including:
- Attending design workshops and project meetings
- Requesting platform requirements and providing costings based on pre-created cost templates
- Updating design documentation, design spreadsheets, and wiki pages
- Updating JIRA with status and required details
- Tracking onboarding status and checklists

- Identify and implement improvements to processes and documentation
- Implement onboarding activities within Apigee, including API key, developer app, and developer creation and rotations




- Create and maintain communications matrices
- Manage the change process for Permit to Work (PTW), including creating Changes and MOPs and progressing through to approval
- Participate in occasional change windows to implement changes (11:00 PM–7:00 AM AEST)
- Develop and improve Ansible scripts
- Implement static routes on Red Hat VMs
- Support ad hoc onboarding and platform maintenance activities

Skills & Experience Required

- Solid working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7/8 administration
- Experience with Ansible via CLI and Ansible Automation Platform
- Prior exposure to API Gateway/Apigee onboarding or administration highly regarded
- Strong documentation skills, including experience with design specs, spreadsheets, and wikis
- Familiarity with JIRA and structured change management processes
- Comfortable working occasional out-of-hours change windows
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with project and design teams
