**# Associate Dentist — Grey Street Dentist, St Kilda

Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays | Contractor position | Experienced clinicians**

## What we're really looking for A patient's memory of their appointment is rarely about the restoration. It's about whether they felt heard, whether the explanation made sense, and whether they left knowing what happens next.

That's the part we care most about. Good clinical hands are the starting point — we assume you have them. What we're looking for is someone who treats the whole visit as their work: the greeting, the conversation, the pace, the follow-up. Someone patients ask for by name.

## About the practice

Grey Street Dentist is an established practice in the heart of St Kilda, part of a small privately-owned group. We hold a 4.9-star rating across more than 700 Google reviews — a reflection of a team that has been consistent for a long time rather than a marketing exercise.

We're not a practice with a revolving door. Our assistants and admin team have been with us for years, they know our patients by name, and they know how each clinician likes to work. New people are brought in carefully because the stability is the thing that makes everything else work.

Our patients are a genuine mix: local families, long-term recall patients, nervous patients referred by someone they trust, and cosmetic and implant cases. There's real clinical variety here without the churn of a high-volume model.

## The days

Monday, Tuesday and Saturday. These are our three strongest days, and they're set.

That's deliberate, and it works in your favour. Saturday is when working patients and families can actually get here — it books out, and it's where a lot of new patients meet the practice for the first time. Mondays and Tuesdays carry our established recall base. You're stepping into three days that are already busy rather than waiting for a book to fill.

Fixed days also mean your patients always know when you're in. They ask for you, they book around you, and continuity of care becomes straightforward instead of something you have to engineer. The rest of your week stays genuinely yours — a lot of clinicians find a settled three-day rhythm easier to build a life around than a roster that moves.

## How we work

This is the part most ads leave out, and it's probably what will tell you most about whether you'd be comfortable here.

- Appointments are scheduled to allow the work to be done properly. If a case needs more time, we book more time. To be explicit though, these are our three busiest days and the book is full — the time is there so the work is done well, not so the day is easy.
- We have clinical protocols, and they're written down. Materials, sterilisation, radiographs, recall intervals, referral pathways. They exist so nothing depends on someone's memory on a busy day.
- Those protocols aren't fixed forever. If you can show us a better way of doing something, we'll listen, and we'll change it properly rather than informally.
- We do have standards, and they're firm. Comprehensive examinations, every patient leaving with a clear plan and their next appointment booked, notes completed the same day, and running to time so the patient after yours isn't kept waiting. None of this is negotiable, and none of it is arbitrary — we can tell you why each one is there.

- Notes, consent and record-keeping are taken seriously here. If that's how you already work, you won't find yourself the only one doing it.
- You get a proper handover. Your first weeks are structured — time with the principal and time to learn our systems properly. These are established days though, so you'll be treating patients from the start rather than easing in over months.

## Remuneration This is a contractor position on a sliding scale commission. The percentage rises with performance, so the clinicians who build a loyal patient base and look after it well are paid accordingly rather than being held to a flat rate.

We'll show you exactly how the scale works before you commit to anything, including where a clinician on three days would realistically sit in year one. We don't think anyone should have to accept a number they haven't been shown the workings of.

You'll need to be set up through your own company (a registered Pty Ltd with its own ABN), which is how we engage all of our clinicians. If you're already contracting this way, nothing changes for you. If you're not, it's a straightforward set-up your accountant can arrange in a week or two, and most dentists find it gives them more control over how they structure their income, expenses and superannuation than being paid as an employee did. We're happy to point you in the right direction.

As a contractor you also hold your own indemnity insurance and registration, and you manage your own professional development. We'll support you in it — but the investment is yours.

## Understanding your practice

Because your income moves with your performance, it helps to understand what drives it. Not selling — the opposite. The clinicians who do well here are the ones patients trust enough to come back to.

That shows up in things worth paying attention to:

- Treatment acceptance — how much of what you diagnose your patients feel confident going ahead with
- Retention and recall — whether patients come back to you
- Reappointment rates — the clearest measure of trust there is
- How well your days run, and whether the time you're given matches the work
- Cancellations and failures to attend — usually a signal about the relationship, not the diary
- Clinical quality — remakes, re-treatments, post-operative complications

You won't have to go chasing any of this. We'll put it in front of you, walk you through what it means, and sit down with you regularly to look at how things are tracking and where we can help. It's never used as a stick — but we do expect these to move in the right direction over time, and we'll be straight with you if they aren't. Standing still isn't really an option here, for any of us. ## Who we're looking for

- You're thorough. You'd rather take the extra ten minutes on the diagnosis than fix it later.
- You're precise about the details — margins, notes, consent, the things nobody sees.

- You're calm with anxious patients, and you don't rush them.
- You build relationships over years, not appointments.
- You're a steadying presence for the team. Assistants like working with you because you're consistent and clear about what you need.
- You hold yourself to a standard nobody has to impose on you. When your own results slip, you're the first one bothered by it.
- Careful, to you, doesn't mean slow. You've worked out how to be thorough and still run to time.
- You're genuinely curious. You've done CPD beyond the minimum because you wanted to, and you can tell us what you're working on improving right now — and what you intend to be better at a year from now.

If you've been somewhere that made careful dentistry harder than it needed to be, this is a practice built the other way around. What we're not offering is a quiet three days. The book is full, the standards are real, and we'll expect you to keep getting better at this. If that sounds like the right kind of demanding, we'd like to hear from you.

## Requirements

- AHPRA general registration as a dentist
- Minimum 3 years' clinical experience in general practice in Australia
- Confident with routine restorative, endodontics, extractions, and crown and bridge
- Registered company (Pty Ltd) with its own ABN, or willingness to set one up before commencing
- Current professional indemnity insurance, CPR and first aid
- Evidence of ongoing professional development

Additional skills in clear aligners, implant restoration or cosmetic work are welcome, but not essential. ## What you can expect from us

- A sliding scale that reflects the loyalty and quality you build, explained openly before you start
- Mentoring and case discussion with the principal and the wider group
- Modern equipment, digital workflows, and a team that keeps them running
- Quality materials and labs — we don't cut corners on what goes in a patient's mouth
- Support in pursuing the training you want to do

- Honest, regular conversations about how your practice is going and what would help
- Room to grow in the depth of your book and the complexity of the cases you take on

## How to apply We know that applying somewhere new is a decision you'd rather make with full information, so here's exactly how it works.

1. Apply through our website.

https://www.greystreetdentist.com.au/hire-dentist/

1. We read every application and reply to all of them, usually within a week.
2. An informal conversation with the principal — no panel, no clinical exam. A discussion about how you work.
3. A Formal Interview
4. A day with us at the practice, so you can see the team and the systems before deciding. This is as much for you as for us.
5. A written offer with the commission scale set out in full.

In your covering note, we'd like to know two things:
- One clinical or communication skill you've deliberately worked on in the last 12 months, and what changed as a result.
- One thing you pay attention to in your own dentistry to know whether you're doing well by your patients.

If you have questions before applying, you're welcome to call and ask them first. We'd rather have the conversation early. Grey Street Dentist — Suite S2/18 Grey Street, St Kilda VIC 3182 | (03) 9534 4017 9534 4017)
