Cat Haven is seeking an experienced and compassionate Veterinarian to join our Veterinary Team on a casual basis to provide leave and vacation relief coverage.

This role is ideal for a veterinarian looking for flexible work while making a meaningful impact on the lives of cats and kittens in need. We are particularly seeking someone who is available over the Christmas and New Year period, with opportunities to commence training and induction shifts from October.

As Western Australia's largest cat welfare organisation, Cat Haven cares for thousands of cats and kittens each year. Our veterinary team plays a vital role in supporting animal welfare outcomes and helping us achieve our commitment to zero euthanasia of healthy or treatable cats suitable for rehoming.

About the Role

This position will primarily provide coverage for our busy consult and shelter medicine shifts, supporting the health and welfare of cats and kittens in our care. Working closely with Veterinary Nurses, Cat Welfare teams, foster carers and adopters, you'll manage a diverse range of cases while contributing to positive welfare and rehoming outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct health assessments and examinations of cats and kittens.
- Diagnose and manage medical conditions and hospital cases.
- Develop and oversee treatment and medication plans.
- Perform routine veterinary procedures and surgery as required.
- Assess cats for adoption suitability and readiness for rehoming.
- Provide guidance and support to Veterinary Nurses and shelter staff.
- Communicate with foster carers, adopters and members of the public regarding animal care and treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate veterinary records and case notes.
- Collaborate with shelter teams to achieve the best possible outcomes for cats in care.

About You





We are looking for a veterinarian who can confidently step into a busy shelter environment with minimal supervision and quickly become a valued member of the team.

Essential Requirements

- Degree in Veterinary Science.
- Current registration with the Veterinary Surgeons' Board of Western Australia.
- Strong clinical assessment and case management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to low-stress feline handling and animal welfare best practice.
- Robust computer literacy and experience using veterinary practice software.
- Full Australian working rights.

Highly Regarded

- Previous experience in shelter medicine, animal welfare or rescue organisations.
- Experience working with high-volume feline caseloads.
- Strong consulting and medical case management experience.
- Additional qualifications or experience in feline medicine, shelter medicine or soft tissue surgery.

Special Requirements

- Availability to work casual shifts, including weekends as required.
- Availability over the Christmas and New Year period is highly desirable.
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of shelter work.
- Ability to perform euthanasia when required as part of humane welfare management.
- Satisfactory National Police Clearance prior to commencement.
