Greenslopes

Legacy Brisbane is one of Australia’s largest Legacy clubs, supporting the families of deceased and incapacitated veterans and working to prevent social and financial disadvantage for the families in its care. With approximately 30 staff, 250 Legatees and volunteers and 3,473 clients supported annually, Legacy Brisbane delivers an enduring mission grounded in service, commitment, understanding, trust and empathy.

At the heart of Legacy Brisbane’s work is a simple but powerful idea: that families should not be left to face hardship alone because of a loved one’s service. That promise has guided the organisation for generations, and today it is being reimagined for the future with a strong focus on service design, collaboration, connection and measurable impact for veterans’ families.

Legacy Brisbane is entering an important and energising new chapter. The organisation has invested in a $10 million purpose-built facility within the Greenslopes Health and Medical Research Precinct, creating the opportunity to bring veteran and family services together in a more coordinated, contemporary and person-centred environment. This is not simply a move to a new building; it is an opportunity to reshape how care is designed, delivered and experienced.

Reporting to the Board of Legacy Brisbane and the President, the Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic, operational and values-led leadership as the organisation delivers its Strategic Plan 2025–2029, transitions to Legacy House at Greenslopes and embeds a current collaborative model of care.

This is a significant purpose-led leadership opportunity for an executive who understands that strong service delivery is not just about programs, processes or funding, it is about designing systems of support that meet people where they are, respond to changing needs, and create genuine outcomes in people’s lives.

The CEO will lead a capable and committed Senior Management Team and work with an organisation where there is genuine care for the mission, strong goodwill and an engaged culture to build from. Central to the role will be creating clarity, confidence and cohesion through change, strengthening organisational capability and ensuring Legacy Brisbane continues to deliver high-quality, responsive and trusted services to veterans’ families.

The role will also require a leader who can thoughtfully connect mission with sustainability, focused on strengthening partnerships, building philanthropic and community support, and ensuring Legacy Brisbane has the resources, relationships and operating model required to deliver enduring impact.

Key Priorities will include:

- Leading the implementation of Legacy Brisbane’s Strategic Plan 2025–2029 and guiding the organisation’s transition to its new Greenslopes facility
- Shaping, championing and embedding the new collaborative model of care, with a strong focus on service design, beneficiary experience and measurable outcomes
- Ensuring services remain responsive, accessible and well-coordinated for veterans’ families, while continuing to improve programs, partnerships and impact;
- Building trusted relationships across the Australian Defence Force, Department of Defence, Department of Veterans’ Affairs, government, health organisations, ex-service organisations, community partners and the broader Legacy network;
- Strengthening relationships with corporate, community and financial supporters, and personally leading engagement with major donors, trusts, foundations and corporate partners;
- Building senior leadership capability, strengthening succession planning and enabling a more resilient, empowered and future-ready organisation.

About You

You will be an accomplished, emotionally intelligent and service-oriented executive who is drawn to work that matters. You may have led a purpose-driven organisation, a substantial service delivery portfolio, or a complex community, health, human services, member-based or not-for-profit workplace. What will matter most is your ability to lead with clarity, empathy and commercial discipline and to translate purpose into practical, sustainable impact.

You will bring demonstrated experience designing, leading or transforming service delivery models, ideally in environments where outcomes depend on collaboration, trust and the ability to work across multiple stakeholder groups. You will understand how to move from aspiration to execution: taking a strategy or service vision and turning it into a clear operating model, strong teams, good decisions and better outcomes for the people being served.

You will also bring the maturity to lead through change. Legacy Brisbane is entering a period of significant transformation, and the successful candidate will need to provide confidence, steadiness and energy, bringing staff,

Legatees, volunteers, the Board and partners with them while keeping the needs of veterans’ families at the centre of every decision.

Importantly, you will be comfortable operating at the intersection of mission, service delivery, stakeholder leadership and financial sustainability. You will bring experience in organisational management, philanthropic fundraising, major donor engagement, grant funding and partnership development, together with the confidence to personally engage government, corporate partners, trusts, foundations and high-net-worth individuals to secure support for meaningful work.

You will be an emotionally intelligent and credible leader who values people, builds trust quickly and knows how to get the best from capable teams. You will work effectively with the Board, support and develop a strong Senior Management Team and contribute to a culture that is engaged, service-minded and proud of the work it does.

Experience in government engagement, collaborative care or service delivery, member-based organisations and transitioning capital donors into ongoing program funders will be highly regarded.

Why This Role Is Great

This is a rare opportunity to lead an organisation with an enduring and deeply meaningful purpose, a committed team and a culture that is ready for its next chapter. With the move to a new purpose-built facility, implementation of an innovative collaborative model of care and an increased focus on partnerships, service quality and sustainable impact, the CEO will have the opportunity to shape how Legacy Brisbane serves veterans’ families for years to come, honouring its proud history while helping design a more connected, contemporary and impactful future.

For the right leader, this is a chance to honour Legacy Brisbane’s history while helping design its future: more connected, more contemporary, more sustainable and even more impactful.
