Job Description
Senior Hydraulic Technician / Mechanical Fitter
n
If you enjoy solving problems, variety in your work, taking the lead on a job and working with a close-knit, supportive team, we'd like to hear from you.
n
SA Fluid Power Engineering is looking for an experienced hydraulic technician or mechanical fitter to join our team in Cavan. We work with a broad range of industrial plant, mobile equipment and specialised machinery, so you won't spend every day working on the same thing. We work across all the major hydraulic brands, with direct OEM relationships including Danfoss and HYDAC, and access to the technical information and manufacturer support needed to do the job properly.
n
A big part of the role is solving problems. Sometimes that's fault finding a hydraulic circuit, sometimes it's mechanical or automation, it might be working out a practical way to repair or modify a machine. You'll also repair and test hydraulic components, install and modify systems, carry out maintenance and respond to breakdowns. You will work with our staff and clients to figure out the best outcome for a client and help them achieve it.
n
Much of the work is at customer sites throughout Adelaide, the Barossa and regional South Australia, with workshop work making up the balance. Interstate and remote work is available for the right candidate.
n
What you'll be doing
n
Fault finding and repair of hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment
n
Diagnosing faults in hydraulic systems and control circuits
n
Assessing, repairing and testing hydraulic components
n
Installing and modifying hydraulic and mechanical systems
n
Breakdown response and preventative maintenance
n
Reading hydraulic schematics, engineering drawings and technical information
n
Working with electricians, programmers, controls technicians and other trades
n
General lathe and mill work
n
Fabrication and welding where required
n
Dealing directly with customers and explaining faults and repairs
n
Completing service and maintenance records
n
Our technicians have the authority to make decisions onsite. If the scope changes or you find something unexpected, you'll have the freedom to use your judgement and deal with it. If you need help, there are experienced people in the business to call when you need another opinion or a job genuinely needs more than one set of eyes.
n
We care about getting the diagnosis right, achieving the best outcome for our client, and doing work we're happy to put our name to.
n
Who we're looking for
n
This is a senior position, so you'll need a good working knowledge of hydraulics and should be comfortable fault finding from a schematic.
n
You'll normally come from a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter/Machinist or similar trade background. Experience across mechanical and pneumatic equipment, control logic,
and WHS requirements is valuable because our work regularly crosses between disciplines.
n
You'll deal directly with clients and spend a fair amount of time working solo as well as with other people, both in the workshop and onsite. Being reliable, approachable and easy to work with matters to us.
n
You'll need a current driver's licence and either hold a forklift licence or be willing to obtain one. MR, restricted electrical, dogging, rigging, EWP and similar tickets are a big plus but not essential.
n
Working at SAFE
n
At SAFE you'll work directly with the people running the business and with staff who have spent decades working in hydraulics.
n
We try to give our staff what they need to do their job properly and then let them get on with it. If you've got a better way of doing something, we want to hear it.
n
We have a great group of people and interesting work. We take the standard of our work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.
n
What we offer
n
$50–$60 per hour depending on skills and experience
n
Permanent full time position
n
Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
n
Overtime and weekend work available
n
Company service vehicle
n
Phone and tablet
n
Uniforms
n
Tooling assistance
n
Workshop and field work
n
Opportunities for professional development
n
Opportunities for regional, interstate and remote work
