About Pankind
Pankind is the leading organisation dedicated to improving outcomes for Australians affected by pancreatic cancer and tripling pancreatic cancer survival by 2030. We fund research, support people living with pancreatic cancer and their carers, and advocate for a fair chance at earlier diagnosis and better treatment.
The Role
Our marketing automation platform connects Pankind with our community: people living with pancreatic cancer, their carers, donors and fundraisers. This role builds a richer, constantly evolving picture of that community through smarter segmentation, dashboards and a constant feedback loop.
We're looking for a Community Insights and Marketing Automation Manager to own this engine end-to-end: understanding strategy and audience, building journeys, testing and launching campaigns, and turning performance data into insight that Programs, Research and Fundraising can act on. You'll take direction on objectives and audience criteria from the relevant Head of Area and Audience Owner for each initiative, and partner closely with the Data & Systems Manager to keep everything you build on solid, well-governed data.
In practice, this role is weighted around 70% marketing automation and campaign/email delivery, and 30% community insights (surveys, satisfaction loops and reporting).
Key Responsibilities
Strategy, messaging & journey delivery
- Understand the strategic objective behind each initiative, who the audience is, and how they feel, before shaping that into messaging and content for journeys, appeals and our regular newsletter program.
- Build and configure journey and automation logic in our marketing automation platform, covering everything from support communications for people living with pancreatic cancer and their carers, donor stewardship and fundraising appeals to the newsletter.
- Quality-assure and test every journey before it goes live.
- Launch and activate campaigns across all channels.
Working with AI agents
- Use AI tools to help draft, personalise and test content and journeys, reviewing and refining their output rather than accepting it at face value.
- Take on day-to-day oversight of AI agents used in our marketing automation platform: setting guardrails, checking outputs against our tone and values, and stepping in when judgement is needed.
- Pilot new AI capability thoughtfully: start small, measure results, and scale only what genuinely helps our community.
Insights, dashboards & optimisation
- Build and maintain dashboards that track engagement performance (opens, CTR, conversion) across every journey and program, including the newsletter.
- Monitor results and turn them into clear, practical insight for Programs, Research and Fundraising, to inform ongoing journey optimisation.
- Continuously improve segmentation, messaging and timing based on what the data shows.
- Own Pankind's community insights loop: manage the annual supporter survey and ongoing patient and carer satisfaction surveys (currently run via SurveyMonkey), then translate results into recommendations Programs, Research and Fundraising can act on.
Working with audience owners & data
- Contribute to defining audience and segmentation criteria alongside each initiative's Audience Owner, and work with the Data & Systems Manager on the data extraction, validation and systems integration feeding each journey.
- Develop a genuine understanding of each initiative's objectives, success metrics, and sign-off requirements, so what you build matches intent the first time.
- Bring the community and marketing perspective to Pankind's cross-functional Data Governance Committee.
About You
You're dynamic and hands-on: comfortable with technology and process, but what sets you apart is a real curiosity about our community: who they are, what they need, and how we can serve them better.
Essential
- Hands-on experience building campaigns and journeys in a marketing automation platform.
- Comfortable with data: segmentation logic, dashboards and reporting, with enough technical curiosity to work with integrations without needing everything spelled out.
- Experience designing surveys and dashboards that create a constant feedback loop (we currently use SurveyMonkey), and turning what comes back into clear insight and action.
- A genuine curiosity about the people Pankind exists for: people living with pancreatic cancer, their carers, donors and fundraisers, not just campaign metrics.
- A strategic mindset: you want to understand why an initiative exists and how the audience feels, not just execute a brief.
- Process-minded:
you write explicit documentation and process guides for what you build, so it's understandable and repeatable for the next person.
- Adaptable: comfortable working through ambiguity and changing priorities as our martech stack, processes and community needs evolve.
- Stakeholder Management: Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Curiosity about AI tools, and comfort reviewing and overseeing AI-generated or AI-agent-driven work rather than simply accepting it.
Desirable
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud Expertise or equivalent: Proven hands-on experience leveraging a marketing automation platform to deliver personalised, data-driven customer journeys and campaigns.
- Lifecycle Marketing Experience: Strong experience building and optimising customer journeys, nurture programs, and personalised communications.
- Platform builds: Capable in working in project teams to stand up new martech platforms and build out new processes & workflows.
- Data & Segmentation Expertise: Confidence working with complex customer data, audience segmentation, and customer data platforms.
- Cross-Channel Experience: Experience delivering campaigns across email, SMS and other digital channels.
- Experience working alongside or supervising AI agents.
What you’ll get
- A chance to be part of a small, committed team making a real difference.
- A high-trust, flexible workplace that values outcomes over hours.
- Opportunities to grow and shape how Pankind shows up digitally.
- Salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 for living expenses and $2,650 for meals and accommodation.
- A sense of purpose, knowing your work supports life-changing progress.
What Success Looks Like (first 6–12 months)
- Journeys, appeals and the newsletter program run smoothly and reliably, with strong, growing engagement.
- Dashboards are live, giving Programs, Research and Fundraising real-time visibility into performance.
- Community insights are genuinely feeding segmentation and content decisions, not just being reported.
- Campaign briefs and segments are faster to turn around and better targeted than before.
- AI tools and agents are used thoughtfully within journeys and reporting, with clear human oversight and no drop in quality or trust.
- A clear, collaborative working relationship with the Data & Systems Manager
