About the role
We are seeking a suitably qualified and Alcoa-approved Construction Superintendent to provide on-site oversight of construction, demolition and installation works in and around Laboratory Building 141 at Alcoa Kwinana. This is a full-time, site-based role responsible for ensuring works are completed safely, to the required standards and in accordance with Alcoa requirements and applicable WHS legislation.
The project includes demolition, civil, mechanical, electrical and structural construction, below-ground excavation, and electrical and mechanical isolations. Previous experience working at Alcoa Kwinana is highly desirable.
Construction is scheduled to continue through to February 2027.
Key responsibilities
As the on-site construction lead, you will:
- Provide day-to-day Alcoa oversight of construction, demolition and installation activities.
- Act as the primary point of accountability for construction safety throughout the works.
- Ensure compliance with the WHS Act and Regulations, including requirements relating to construction and high-risk construction work.
- Identify high-risk construction activities and verify appropriate controls are in place before work commences.
- Review and approve SWMS for high-risk construction work where Alcoa is the Principal Contractor.
- Ensure demolition activities are appropriately classified and undertaken in accordance with AS 2601:2025 and relevant licensing requirements.
- Oversee permit-to-work processes, isolations, pre-starts and daily field verification activities.
- Supervise contractors and verify required licences, competencies and inductions.
- Coordinate electrical works and isolations with the nominated Alcoa representative and ensure appropriate supervision is in place.
- Monitor contractor performance against scope, safety and quality requirements.
- Provide daily updates and lookaheads to refinery contractor management and operations teams.
- Manage construction-area segregation, temporary walkways and access routes.
- Coordinate and communicate impacts to adjacent buildings and operational areas.
- Ensure dig permits and completed GPR surveys are in place before ground disturbance.
- Confirm all required permits and approvals are in place before works commence.
- Oversee construction against approved drawings and specifications.
- Monitor progress against the construction schedule through to February 2027.
- Ensure inspection and testing requirements are completed and coordinate project handover.
- Provide regular progress and incident reporting to the relevant project leadership.
About you
To be considered for this role, you will need to be suitably Alcoa-qualified and approved to act as Construction Superintendent and available to work full time on site at Kwinana for the duration of construction. Previous Alcoa Kwinana experience is highly desirable, particularly where you have worked within site safety, permit, isolation and contractor-management requirements.
You will be comfortable overseeing multidisciplinary works involving demolition, civil, mechanical, electrical and structural activities, while maintaining a strong focus on safe execution, quality and coordination across contractors and operational stakeholders.
